Gee Gary, it sounds like maybe you could get a free upgrade for your website from one of the member here, who might actually happen to be a web designer.
etard - Gary's existing website was already a free upgrade by a "web designer" and just look how that turned out = )_ (JK)

Seriously though... someone posted about Gary needing to update his signature with his website address, I have to agree Gary... before it locked in my mind that Gary is tppacks.com I must have searched threads for GGoodrum a dozen or more times to find his site.

 hahahaha! that's a good one! I was just kidding around guys, all this talk about the superiority of assembled chargers vs. premade ones made me take it to the other end of the spectrum. I'd like to thank http://thereifixedit.com/ for the inspiration.

I keep trying too find easy ways to make good DC from the wall too.
I actually thought about running a rectum-fryer, but I cant come up with a cheap way to limit the current for the CC mode
Could do it with a huge power resistor I guess.....

Hmmmmm... methods 20C lipo charger for broke bastards:

1 rectum-fryer tuned to 100V
1 big ass capacitor
1 500W resistor

Now THAT is ghetto 8)

Drop it like it's hot

...puffing lipo

Just noticed Zippy 5S 5ah packs are on sale at HC for $43 - 63% off, works out cheaper than the turnigys @ $8.60/cell
Bargain for making 10S or 15S packs.
I'd grab a few more if I didn't just place an order last week for a for more 6S turnigys!

Hyena,

Thanks for the heads up... 6 more 5S on order but these are only 15C rated (I wouldnt pull more than 5C from em for 15S2P that's 50A... should be good)

*EDIT - So i went to hobby king to order these, debated with myself for about 10 minutes over the 50.00 difference for 6 of them between these and the turnigy LiPo 20C... then I noticed my bonus credit points (> 300) so I said the heck with it and grabbed the 6 + 2 more cellMon8 units and they have balance adapter extension for 2,3,4,5 and 6s in bags of 10 for 4-5 each, i grabbed 40 5S, 40 6S and 20 3S + 40 more pairs of 10mm connectors.

Best part... it cost me 75.00 for EMS but I paid nothing for the new pack to test with... I found a wholesaler / manufacturer in China but they only have 15C packs of 5, 10 and 12AH... they are sending 3x5S5AH and 3x5S10AH cells for evaluation but they are coming slow boat so these will give me an idea if the bikes will run okay on true 15c packs.

Thanks again!

-Mike

I notice HC is now listing the 6s-5000 20C Turnigy packs as being able to be shipped from their German warehouse. The cost is $10 more, but those in Europe should save on shipping, I would guess.

I'm guessing they will start doing the same from the US warehouse soon as well. Right now all they have are 3s-5000 packs, and only four of them. :) They do list the little 6s 50W balance chargers so I might pick up a couple to play with, testing balance times, etc. They have 300mA shunts, which isn't great, but for $45 each ($35 if shipped from HK...) it's not too bad.

I strongly agree!

What's holding you back from promoting your site?

I have a small website i made for myself few years back (attempting to 're-vamp' it... ) I never listed it on search engines was originally more for me too keep account of my projects , over 7 thousand people have visited the site as a result of having the link in my sig. So it is definitely worth it IMO :)

Speaking of which have you seen these new things they're stocking ?
Similar to the cell log 8 but also balances. I'm sure it'd be very low current but not bad with well behaved packs that only need minor balancing.

On another note I have a serious, possibly terminal illness to report in my 15S turnigy family.
Riding home from work yesterday it was absolutely PISSING down and I got thoroughly soaked, as did every part of the bike. 1km from home and 5ah into my 10ah pack my BM6 starts going off and when I checked it said one of the cells was 4.7v. I unplugged it, shook the water out of it ( lol ) and then plugged it back in. It came back reading all cells at 3.8v and I continued on my way. 30 seconds later it starts beeping again so I just ignored it and continued home. When I got home I check it again and it was reading 4.7v which I thought nothing of, unplugged it and left it. I came down this morning to find that cell reading only 1.5v. All other batteries in the pack read fine so its not the BM6. I plugged in my parallel harness and it instantly started making an angry hissing / boiling noise. Needless to say I promptly unplugged it! The hissing went away a few seconds later, the voltage came up to 3v temporarily but was back to 1.5 shortly after. I assume when I connected in parallel all the other packs were dumping bulk current into the sick cell ?

I''ll try slow charging that cell up this afternoon and see if it recovers.

That's cool, mate. Anyways, I must say THANK YOU for putting Gary's site in YOUR sig. At least I can find it somewhere, now.

I think its pretty cool that he wont put it in his sig 8)

I understand the general climate of ES of keeping vested commercial interests and technical advice divorced and maintaining said facade, but when he references and promotes his products in many of his posts and doesn't leave a trail to find them? That's just absurd.

I remember a long time ago I PM'd Gary to ask if he had a website. lol

Geez, I'm taking a few hits here. :D

I haven't promoted anything because I really don't have much to offer yet. I need to revamp/redo the whole site, and get rid of a lot of stuff I don't do anymore. As soon as I get the balancers stuff sorted out, I will then try and at least clean up the site and make the ebike-related stuff more prominent. At that point I will also start a thread in the For Sale section for all the LiPo-related stuff, with links to the site. At that time maybe I'll consider adding a link in my signature, but we'll see.

Gary is like the opposite of a Chinese vendor.

Chinese vendor method - Post up big specs and claims for products that don't yet exist, but you think you could make. List them as "IN-STALK" or "IN-STOOK" (both of these I have seen). List a shipping time that you think should give you enough time from getting the money they paid, to develop and build a product, then ship it out, and blame the delay on the shipper, and blame quality control issues from an untested product on user error.

Gary Method- Build it at your own expense. Test and tweak. Build more at your own expense, more testing, tweaking, playing, tweaking. More revision designs come up, also built at his own expense, more testing, abuse, testing, looking for problems. Eventually doing a small low volume production and selling a few after he has personally worked out the bugs at his own personal expense. Likely never profiting or being remotely worth his time, but helping the EV revolution to tackle the most difficult part of EV's, the energy source.

Hmm. Sounds like I'm the exception as I knew of Gary's website before having any interest in ebikes.

So Gary, it sounds like you will be reducing the amount of e-heli stuff on your site and increasing the ebike offerings. This parallels my recent shift in interests.

What are you going to do after the ebike stuff? I'm just wondering what I'll get into next... ;)

well, now this costs $149.99 it must magically gotten better the past few days.

It's $89 for me. Prices at hobbycity depend on membership levels (how much $ you have blown with them).

If you're a regular customer, make sure you are logged in when you check prices, as they can often change by large amounts.

$89-jeez Luke, sweet discount!

I believe Luke is now a silent partner of Hobby City due to the large amount of coin he has dropped there, rumours are he
is responsible for single handily feeding Hobby City workers familes for the past 12 months along with putting 4
of their children through private school

Gary probably isn't changing his signature because he cant remember how to operate the software
