So it sounds like we're all in agreement, this is really just trying to polish a turd. I'll have to break the news to the owner . I'll pass along the sentiments of the thread and go with him and support him in any way I can. Like I said, we're all in agreement to get rid of this bike and...

    Upside Down $$$$$

Thank you for your input "wesnewell" it is well received. That was my thought from the start, its like he wants to polish a turd. That's nothing I'm interested in, 2 wrongs don't make a right, just a more disappointed e cycle enthusiast. My thought is still a mid-drive to remove any...

    Upside Down $$$$$

Well the battery's are of a weird design, that is, that mounting them becomes a challenge in the traditional methods but I'm sure something could be done. I'm thinking remove the cells from the stock housing, reconfigure them in a more traditional housing then mount that, then wire parallel to a...

    Upside Down $$$$$

Thanks for the reply Doc009, I never thought about a 36v mid drive. Here in this area I never consider anything other than 48v as the min., but with the torque difference in the mid-drive it just may work! Using those batteries would be great, they're both new, and design is really clean. Front...

Good Day Everyone, I'm looking for your thoughts and experience to help with this issue. It just may not be as rare as I think it is. I'm using the term “upside-down" in reference to the cash spent on the wrong E bike. A little back story: I was contacted by a friend asking if I would talk...

    Electric Bike on the Cheap

David, A few questions: 1. Does this need to have a crank and pedals, or will you be running with just an electric motor? 2. A little more about the bike you're thinking about using: if the bike is all original simply make and model would suffice. If mods have been made already, if you could...

'If they are offset, which is normal for most motors now, that can totally be reversed, which will offset the rim to the brake side, and give you a good bit of clearance. It does involve taking the motor apart, but nothing more complicated than taking the side cover off, pulling outer ring off...

??? It's a considerable space. I would not think it would work on a standard bicycle axle due to the fact it's hollow. This is what people that try and put an 8 or 9 speed free wheel in an older 10 speed frame find out. The axle bends due to the length, free hubs help this issue greatly with the...

Teaker68, If your placing a 135mm hub in 170mm drop out you may a few issues to look at. 1st.. The approx. 35mm space 2nd.. Dishing that offset, as mentioned Drunshunk above 3rd.. Your chain line Is this frame "symmetrical”? It looks to be. Meaning that the rear triangle is symmetrical, like...

    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

http://sheldonbrown.com/gloss_da-o.html#dish Dish A bicycle wheel should have the rim centered directly in line with the frame. The forkends are symmetrical with respect to the frame, and the hub axle locknuts (or equivalent surfaces) press against the insides of the dropouts. Wheels should be...

    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Correction... The 9mm axle looks to be machined for 135mm drop out then placed in to 170mm drop out giving you all that extra space. If you place spacers in to take up that space it looks as if you will need to dish the wheel for your set up. That compensation may place more stress on the drive...

Drunkshunk... I'm new to hub motors but not to wheel building or cycle building. Can the 135mm axle be replaced with a 170mm axle?
