Hi - Has anyone had any experience of the eBay 1000w hub motors that are for sale from China?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1000W-48V-ele...hash=item290303720262&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177

or just type in eBay '1000w electric bike' and they come up. There are a couple of sellers, and looking at their feedback they have sold a number of these with positive feedback from the buyers (although i sometimes wonder if the positive feedback is for the item being delivered ok, or if the hub really is any good)

For $320USD (motor and controller) they seem a good price, or can anyone recommend anything better? I know the Crystalyte stuff is good, but will be double or triple the price depending on what you go for.. Im in the UK.

Thanks,

I've been curious for some time whether the guy is selling the aotema motor in the first picture at the top of the ad, or golden motor at the bottom in the series of pictures. Anybody out there bought one?

He is selling the GM motor. I asked before but shipping was a rip off. WOOT!! GO GM! I shall name the motor in that auction. Ole Rusty!

icecube, this is where you bot your GM 48V? is he replacing your controller on warranty? he should, i don't think you could have avoided it shorting out, he needed to have a notch on the outside for the pcb to rest on and not short out like it did. it most probably happens a lot for rough riding.

I bought my kit from a US vendor called www.arizonaebikes.com He is replacing my controller. There is actually a space on the front and back of the pcb board glued in place with hot glue. I dont think it shorted from a bump but from me leaving that throttle lock feature on to long. It did after all draw .2A enabled vs the normal .06 during standby. Thats not alot but considering its a momentary feature supposedly used sparingly robust parts probably werent installed to with stand it for long periods... something overheated and blew up. There is brown discoleration on the pcb meaning it had to get hot and for a long time before it blew.

Those pictures look EXACTLY like the pictures looked on the GM site when I bought my first motor. No question about it. Right down to the cheezy battery guage and the thumb throttle. (I actually use that very thumb throttle, BTW).

The glued on plastic stand-offs are a feature of that generation of Shenzhen controllers. They didn't make the PCB quite wide enough to fit into the slots on BOTH sides of the extruded aluminum shell, so stuck the spacers on to limit the waggling a bit. The board is mostly supported by the legs on the FETS, these being screwed to the aluminum rib, which in turn is screwed to the case.

GM ditched the super-cheezy tire and rim a number of months ago.

He is dead on about the how the controller is made.... Its mostly supported by the fets and have two glue on legs to support the other side. I dont know if anyone caught this on the ebay auction but the throttle has a sticker on it that says 24v lol. The controller should be a 48v 30A controller. My kit actually came with a tire too... but my paint job is all silver.

the same throttle can be used at any voltage setup. the thing that changes inside is the resistor that drops power to the input of the voltage regulator as the battery voltage changes, the motor is always the same.

i wondered if your power resistor could have shorted to the case if there was a little loose piece of wire or a loose screw that shorted it out to the case if not the legs of the resistor.

doesn't really matter if you are getting a new one.

if you decide to throw it away, lemme know and i will tinker with to see if it can be figured out. i am new to this and learning about the controllers, this would be a different version for me.

i am pretty sure your green wires are wrong. but no way to see the traces. you could look at the voltage regulators there and see which is the input, that power resistor is tied to the input of the 12V voltage regulator.

So whats with the pic of the aotema motor at the top of the page? Either way, better off just going to Ebikekit or High Tech Bikes for a bargain kit these days. Amped bikes too, of course, if you need the rear 9 continents. With good offerings from aotema or 9 continents, why bother with Golden Motor? And as allways, you need a good reason not to just buy from ebikes-ca.

i actually thought justin's ezee motor kit was really competitive in price too. because you got the Cycle analyst with it, plug and play is important for a lotta tourists here too.

but jason has done me 2 big favors too by offering closeouts on damaged and stale inventory.

Jason is on the approved vendor list for sure from what I've heard.

Thanks for the advice, I guess i asked the question because the 1000w motor on eBay is much cheaper,

a High Tech Bikes kit is $425USD shipped to the UK
an E-Bike Kit is $480USD shipped to the UK
and an ebikes.ca 400 series kit is $530USD shipped to the UK

This 1000w motor on ebay is only $320USD shipped to the UK

Now i dont mind spending the extra cash if you guys think the motors above are really worth the extra money?

If so, taking the above pricing into account which one do you think is the best to buy? (Id like a rear motor, and id like to be able to do 30mph, with a bit of pedaling. i have no hills to climb, and a 12mile (one way) commute to work)

Thanks,

Yes, that's true, shipping from china to UK or US would be cheaper from china compared to shipping to US, followed by shipping to UK. There's your good reason. The main compliaint with GM has been a battery they sold, and across the atlantic ocean, it's not like cusomer service will be that quick from a US vendor. I'm not familiar with any European vendors to recomend. Before you decide shipping is cheaper though, find out how long it will take. If it's by boat, it could take months.

I still maintain that there is nothing wrong with Golden Motor - if it's a motor you seek. The motors have an edge over the competition in some applications. The supplied controllers have worked well for me. The peripheral stuff... That's where they fall down - but it looks like they're making a definite effort to improve in this area.

The seller says that shipping takes 1 - 2 weeks, and that seems to tie up with previous items that he has sold and the subsequent dates that buyers have then left him feedback.

I will be making my own NIMH 48v battery pack, so yes it is just the motor / controller / throttle that i require.

Anyway, i have emailed a few people on eBay that have bought this motor kit from him asking if they could give me any feedback on it, good or bad, I will let you guys know the outcome.

I'm using one of those motor from this seller. i bought it from ebay and received it in 2 weeks.
It works perfectly and I didn't notice any trouble after more than 200 miles.

Thanks for the feedback, can you confirm is it a golden motor, is it the same as the black motor shown in his pictures?

Thanks,

I can't say if it is really a GoldenMotor or not, but it looks like !
I cant' see any difference with the one shown in the website of goldenmotor.

There is an etched serial number on the outer ring of the motor that says like 36v500 or 48v1000. My gms says something along those lines.
