150 MPG SUV

Where to start with this one? First of all, these plug in hibrid gas mileage claims are pure bs. There is a rather huge difference between a 100 mpg prius and a 100 miles on the first gallon, followed by 35 mpg after that. Just how do you calculate gas mileage in such a case? In my opinion, you get miles per killowatt, followed by miles per gallon when the engine starts. The two things are just too different. Then if you calulate cost per mile, for each mode of transport, you may find the "nearly free" part of the ride pretty expensive once you pay for the battery! But obviously there would be a conspiracy against a 150 mpg suv. You may even want to keep a few scam artists looking to get funded out of the auto show of legit manufacturers. Claims like 150 mpg suv don't help you keep from getting lumped in with the hho sellers.

If anything, the volt will be killed by its weight, causing it to carry too much lithium driving up it's cost. I don't think big auto tries to supress competing technology so much as competing auto manufacturers. But once again, they got sucked into our american love of big vehicles, and when out desires suddenly shifted, they have squat to offer. You'd think those guys would at least remember the 80's. Even toyota got caught, seen the sise of their trucks lateley? Back last time, they at least had a real popular small truck to offer. When I got money, I thought I'd buy one, and found out they were $5000 more than a ford truck! I ended up getting a VW van and using it like a truck.

I am really quite bummed that the mismanagement of the oil markets has caused the price to now bottom out so low, since now everybody is back to driving around at 80 mph in their F350's again. For awile there, people were only driving about 10 mph over the speed limit, but now they are back to 20 mph over  No telling how much it will set back alternative energy like the algea fuel farm that is in the planning stages for my town. I bet it never breaks ground now. You pretty much have to spend your way out of a recession, but who will want to spend on alternative energy now except us kooks.

I don't expect oil to stay low:

Pirates will evolve from boatjackers to protection racketeers. The cost of sea transport of oil will double or triple.

That's before the militant ideologists get involved.

Yeah, the depression will cause a nice world war, which will be great for the economy! Here we go again. :( Just what is the carbon footprint of a 2000 pound smart bomb ?

Nostradamus says the "Two Brothers" (America and Russia) start out in a stupid and pointless nuclear war against each other, but end up unified with Europe against a radical Islamic threat in which the West ultimately wins. (WWIII)

Just in case you weren't aware of the story... :|

But for the here and now... expect oil prices to remain low until the world comes out of recession which might be awhile. The wars might start before the alternative "Green" technologies have a chance to make much of a difference.

Chances are, nostrodamus meant germany and france would stop fighting and have another crusade, but close enough, that has happened too. I'ts scary times now, good thing I'm not military age. Of course if troops came though my town, it's red dawn time.

Here's how low gas prices are now, I just got the one ton truck running last night. I need a truck for work in the winter, to haul pecans to the sheller and bring the free firewood home. All summer I was like, who cares if it ever runs again? Now that the truck runs, that hot air balloon in the garage is starting to look good again. So much for me never giving the oil companies money. Still riding the ebike to work about 80 miles a week though, and putting half as much gas and miles on the subaru.

You could sell the truck, get a diesel, burn b100 and still tell exxon to go stuff.

Yeah, I bet I could get 50 bucks for it. Wish now I had got a diesel, I'd be veg oiling it for sure if I had. Wouldn't be hard to score 40 gallons a month around here, for some reason not many biofuel heads here yet.

Even when we used the balloon a lot, it took three years to get 5000 miles on it. Sometimes I just need a beastmobile for work though. One ton of sand or rock is a lot of trips in the subaru. Mostly I drive it to work and just leave it there for a couple months, driving it only about two miles to the rock store, or the lumberyard. Winter is the season we work on stuff like that. Anything but driving it around hauling just my sorry ass.

Pretty hard to resist flying though, It's how I got as broke as I am now, but at the time I just couldn't care less. It's hard to put in words, I love heights, and would be happy painting radio towers. But something about taking off with no clue how or where you will land the thing, it really is pure adventure. Once you have flown the Albuquerque balloon fiesta, you are either scared shitless and never going back, or doomed to be addicted to it. Finding a landing in the center of a big city is to say the least, challenging. Somebody dies every year these days. But it's fun, 9 days of adrenaline and champagne.
