19" Motorcycle Wheels vs 26" Bicycle Wheels (rim and tires)

maybe you received a wrong size rim? 50mm is like 19x2in, that's heavy

I'm pretty sure he means the 1.4" rim is about 50mm on the outside. The rated size is always inside.

yep. that's thsts why maybe I would really be better of with steel. my heavy DH rim sides look comparatively skinny against this 19" wheel. can somebody confirm this much meat is normal?

I have ordered directly from Racing boy, and so far, they have proven to be 100% reliable.

Steel rims are never a better alternative to aluminum rims. Like, never. All else equal, aluminum rims will be stronger, lighter, stiffer, and/or truer to shape. Control for any of the above values and the aluminum rim will come out on top in the rest of them.

Again, the truth. I have compared my 18x1.4 aluminum rims to an 18x1.40 steel rim, over a pound heavier. Even though I have laced up the steel rim to anything, I am sure it will be a bit more flexy as well.

my issue is that it's so wide on the ouside for an inside of 1.4"

my rim put into the frame. the inside is about 38mm

Damn Joe, not much room at all, I see why you wanted narrower. Cut those Vbrake tabs off, and get the smallest 2.00-19 tire you can find, then invest in a knobby cutter. Thats the only chance I think you have.

yup, cut them off. but first install all spacers on the axle you need to bring your brake/disc running.
after that, center the rim (without tire its easier) + WITH the vbrake tab you can center it twice as easy.

when you rim is centered, you can probably let the vbrake tabs. i had similar "problem" on my old trekking bike.
it works(with vbrake tabs), but you have to flat the tire complete to squeeze the wheel out.

i have no measurements about the height or width, but here are some weights from 17 and 19 inch tires.

Continental KKS 10

2.00 x 19 ---------- 1215g
2.25 x 19 RF ------ 1610g

2.00 x 17 -----------1102g
2.25 x 17 RF -------1378g
2.75 x 17 RF -------1597g

Heidenau K34

3.00 x 19 ------------ 3540g

Michelin M62 Gazelle(all RF)

2.25 x 17 ------------ 2210g
2.50 x 17 ------------ 2335g
2.75 x 17 ------------ 2750g
3.00 x 17 ------------ 3060g

if the wheel would be centered perfectly, the no-name chinese 2.25 x 19 i ordered with the wheel would just fit in there even without any filing done on the frame.
my previous wheel alignments were not too sucessful.. so i better file the drop-outs to match the wheel.

next issue then is the single speed free wheel is about 10mm too far left to align with the center of my middle chain ring on the crank.
my expectation was it would be to far out because of the big motor. at least i need to replace the magura julie brake caliper because it touches the motor..

got a flat tire 8-10 miles away from home, had to push that heavy bike all the way. terrible experience. I thought MC tire/tube was pretty strong so I didn't carry a spare tube/pump with me.
which tube do you guys use that has best quality ? I was using bikemaster but now want something better. will the HD version help? I understand it is heavy but I rather carry 1-2 lbs more than get a flat like that.
do you guys carry a small pump / Co2 or extra tube on your ride? changing mx tube on site might be very difficult, do you suggest carrying a bunch of co2 is a good idea?

The ultimate solution to the nail punctures is not this canister?

It should fix both the front bicycle tyre and the rear MC tyre both with an inner tube.
I have one of that canister and a very small pump in the saddle bag. Glad I did not, however, still had to use that canister :D

it says can seal the pinch, I wonder how? since I assume just gas inside
if just inflating then co2 bottle maybe smaller to carry?
I can't find much more info on this Italian gadget

i think it must have chemical sealant inside..
similar to "fix a flat" spray can sealant for car tire puncture..
but smaller for motorcycle/ moped tires..

I think I just added "gomma flat" to my vocabulary.

Goma means rubber in Spanish, too.

Gonna rubber up that sucker.

Does anyone know who does wheel builds for moto rims with bike hubs in the SF Bay Area? I've received my rims, tires and hubs and just want to find someone who may have performed this kind of build before. Thanks for any help.
