Senate Bill 177:
Introduced by Sen. Brian Boquist, R-Willamette Valley, at the request of Ed Campbell, it would require adult bicycle riders to pay a $10 registration fee, which would fund a Bicycle Transportation Improvement Fund.
It would prohibit the use of state highway funds to support most bike infrastructure and would also require adult bike riders to get a license to ride.

And so it begins......

FWIW, city of Phoenix has had a law requiring registration of each bicycle for decades, but there is no infrastructure to deal with it, and the police and DMV and the rest of the government have no clue about it, when asked how to go about it.

I guess it's like the laws about walking with lanterns some distance before and after your horseless carriage: unenforced / unenforceable, but something an officer could theoretically use to stop/detain someone if they chose, even if it wouldn't hold up later in court.

I suspect the law in the OP will go the same way, though it could take a while.

I also expect that if you don't like the bill, you can fight it to keep it from becoming law in the first place.

Dumbass law. Tax at point of sale maybe enforceable. Then to be ignored from then on.

Don't they realize that bike infrastructure helps cut road wear when people bike instead of drive? AND, only 1% ers have no car, and pay no road taxes through the car. So that bike rider likely DID pay for that road.

just another install by our loving politrickers to hobble bicycle culture in this country. Its a multi-faceted attack on anything that stands inthe way of oil profits.

DO NOT FOLLOW THE LAW !! It is not legal!!
