Just when I had gotten comfortable, I found something else to be a total noob over

Tyre sizes...
as an introduction my brain is firmly coded to use millimetres and all this inch business thoroughly confuses me

I have an all in one electric wheel, so I am stuck to rim size, the rim has printed on it 22x1.75
so I picked up a inner tube sized 22 x 1.5 - 2.125 so far so good, that fit fine (or alteast it went on  )

I also picked up a tyre 22 X 1/1/2 figuring the 1/4" of an inch difference was the width and I'd be able to get away with it?
but the rim just falls straight through this tyre, so obviously I didn't get away with it...

What sort of tyres could I be looking out for? 22x1.75 seems to be firmly not on the internet... : -(

will get a pic up later when at home...

Oddly enough, 22"X1-3/4" and 22"x1.75" are actualy diffrent rim sizes. It comes up in other rim sizes too. The short explination is if your tire uses decimals in the size, you can't use a tire who's size is in fractions. They are different sizes of rims.

A longer and better explination can be found on the Late, Great Shelden Brown's web site: http://sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html

Here's one source for your tire. Just the first hit on google. http://www.everybicycletire.com/Shopping/pc-3175-16-22-x-175-courtesy-tire-457.aspx

ooh thanks!

I read this page but missed the significance of the separation between decimal and fraction : -(

so if I stick to fraction could I get anything between 22x1.57 to 22x2.15?
because if so that opens up my options greatly! (I'm being hampered by living on the wrong side of the pond at the moment :D )

To be honest, I'd never heard of a 22" tire, but a little research found what you probably need for your rim.

Strange how they have different diameters and all called 22". 22x1.75 is 457mm. others are 490mm.

Well, decimal. fractions are the ones with the "/", but you got it. And if you have all those choices, you're on the right side of the pond.

:p yes my brain can get confused with 50/50, I will end up saying one but meaning the other!

Slow delay but...

Success! Now I just need to figure out why it doesn't go :p
