Anyone have a recommendation for full coverage fenders for a 29" mountain bike? Tires are 2.25" wide.
I bought a set that was supposed to fit a 29" bike but the radius is too small, no tire clearance. I have a set of Planet Bike 26" fenders on another bike and really like them but their 29" fenders are a different style that look like a science project gone bad. I haven't found other options but maybe someone here knows of something suitable.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can have them alu, rolled to your spec at sheet metal work shops.

You can make your own HDPE or PVC, with patience and heat gun.

How much would that cost be better to just buy them from any old bike shop or online delivered, be sure the new ones are 29" to fit 3" tire for a 2.25" tire.

I bought these for a recent project and was pleasantly surprised by the fit and appearance. Project tire size used was 27.5x2.8

I can't imagine what having them made would cost. Probably way more than the bike I started the project with ($125). Heat gun's a good idea.
Do you mean a PVC pipe cut in half lengthwise, or a flat piece of PVC?

They look good but they don't go down to the chainstay which seems odd.
These are the ones I bought which would be good for 27.5" tires but they're too small for 29" even though the listing says they fit 29". They snap onto the tire like a tupperware lid, radius of the curve is too small. They should work well for a 27.5" bike I'm planning to build.

Planet Bike Cascadia (the regular polycarbonate kind) are about the best value for cost.

I don't know about their tire clearance.

I use Axiom Roadrunner fenders on my 29er e-bike, but 2.1" tires are about all they'll accommodate on my frame. I use 700x50 because I need the fenders more than I need bigger tires.

If it's helpful, there's a few guides out there:

Chainstay? They come with various length arms and the plastic ends slide over those. Should be a pretty easy install. Mine were.

I had some made for 26 X 3.0 tire size, cost over 110$ each with shipping. One of them was used to make a mold before cutting and mounting on my bike. The mold had been used to make one with CF for another bike, that came out excellent looking and durable.

I have made one with PTFE sheet from home depot, unbreakable but average looking. Cut with a carpet knife and shaped with a heat gun using a wooden gabarit. Before, I had tried making one with landscaping plastic edging, but it was not stiff enough. PVC sheet would be all right, and cheaper than PTFE. Pipes are too thick.

Just sayin'.

I had a set on my Townie 29"er and they work great. A bit spendy but custom costs!

Very nice wooden mud flaps that bike is cool

Those fenders are pretty cheap considering how nice they are. They're less than twice the price of some plastic ones. I'd probably wreck them in short order though. But when I build my beach cruiser they'll be on it.

Yes in the front of the rear wheel, the fender doesn't go all the way down. I have a project box under the controller with all the electrical connections so I'm trying to keep water off that. I know it won't stay dry in the rain even with fenders but I'm doing what I can.

Yes I have the planet bike polycarbonate 26" fenders on my wife's bike and really like them. But that cascadia line has the mount adjusters out at the fender, sticking out. They look like they'd catch on to everything. I see they do sell the mount adjusters for the polycarbonate fenders separately so I may just get the fenders and separate mounts and see if I can modify the cascadia fenders to use the other mounts.

I learned a new word today, never heard of a gabarit before although I've made a few. Just didn't know they had a name. Thanks for that.
I bet CF fenders would be the ultimate in looks and durability, I'm surprised no one sells them off the shelf. If I had a mold I'd probably give it a shot.

Does SKS make the Velo Mountain 65 (65mm wide) in a 29” version? Great fenders and they look fantastic. I have the 26” ones and they clear a 2.4” wide Schwalbe Super Moto-X (supposed to be 62mm wide). They were surprisingly affordable, paid around 30$ Canadian for them.

Yes, they're on Amazon and look like they could be worth a shot. Thanks
