The UK e-bike laws are so vague,
technically i can have a throttle as long as it requires me to pedal to use it.
There's nothing to say it needs to be entirely pedal assist, only that it requires pedalling to be propelled.
Official government website states:
Your bike is illegal if:
"does not have pedals that can propel it" (A chain solves this)
"it can be propelled without pedalling, for example, a ‘twist and go’" (requires pedalling for propulsion)
This means, as long as my pedals are spinning at any speed or gearing i wish, my bike can be throttle powered.
This loophole will be utilised in my next "legal" build and i will be carrying around obnoxiously large printed off copies of the regulations with even more obnoxious arrows and circles just to annoy any officer who decide to try.
