Amp meter burning smell???

Hey I got one of those little blue eBay led amp meters for my ebike/drift trike and whenever I connect it there is a burning smell & it gets a bit hot.. Is this normal or should I get a refund? I'm scared to use it


Also any suggestions for good amp meters I don't have to worry about screwing up my batteries?

The whole thing is blue or are you talking about the display backlight?

I've had good luck with GT Power meters found on eBay between $15-$20 shipped. Gotta bring your own connectors to the party but most RC will be like that.

How much current are you pushing and what voltage?

It's the blue black light one gt power I think. Just putting 48v / 1200w

If it gets hot when just connected to the battery, either it's poorly designed or defective, or made with counterfeit or outright wrong parts.

Not normal. Sounds like a short got built in. Open it, there might be an obvious blob of solder in the wrong place, loose part, etc.

Cheap enough to try again.
