Astro 3210 group buy?

Matt,

Just a suggestion but wouldn't these Astros have application for model heli (3d), airplanes and 1/5th scale RC cars?

If so... and anyone knows some decent people from other forums - how about cross posting to get the order wrapped up faster (quick chance the non es member before this deal price to 325.00 and pass the savings along to us )__

Mostly kidding!

Yes, I considered that. That may be a possibility. I am not 100% sure how Astro Flight would like me selling way below dealer cost, though (to the RC market). They know the bike market is a smaller niche. Also, I would like to keep this in the bike forum for now. If we do not have 30 motors spoken for in a week or so, I will cross post.

Matt

I think this will probably be the motor for my Greenspeed Trike. As you have been reading Matt on the Bentrideronline forum, I've powered my Rans Wave with a hubmotor and LiFePo4, need to refill the coffers before doing this, so January at the earliest for me. Put me down as a tenative... don't want to be a commit and drop out type.

Want to run through my drivetrain with a 35-45mph max speed (35 is actually plenty... but have one stretch of road where 45 might be nice, but that is scary fast with potholes, especially in the dark), using 48v 10ah Headway pack I have and my 48v hub motor's controller if it won't smoke with this motor wanting to draw a bunch more juice than I need. If it'll work, I can save up for the motor, and probably your reduction to tie it in with.

I'm in a similar situation to redorblack, very interested in picking up a 3210 at this price but waiting on free time and funds.

Neither of which i will have for at least 3 weeks.

So for now you can chalk me up as an interested party, but nothing more.

I've been crunching the numbers on this motor and you might be interested in this plot.

As I said, I like the way that Astro provide proper data, and apart from the odd typo, it all seems to be consistent. I've managed to extract this plot for operation at max continuous power. Its based on limiting the armature current to the recommended value. Obviously you can get higher peak power out, but the efficiency will drop and motor heating will be a problem.

For my particular application, I'm looking at continuous operation. This is pretty impressive performance, but its right on the borderline for what I need.

You could use a 3215, then.....?

Very likely, but it was the prospect of the deal on the 3210's that spurred me into getting on with the design calcs and seeing if they would work for me.

Edit to add: The Astroflight website doesn't have a 3215, but there is an 8150 which would do, but its $500.

Nick

OK. I'm getting way way ahead of the stated agenda here but it seem to me Matt that you buy a good amount 3220's as well.

Is a 3220 group buy on the horizon?

I'm in for one of the 10 turn units.

"Is a 3220 group buy on the horizon? "
Here Here! If a comperable discount can be had on 3220's I'm in for a couple.

Thanks Matt as always for your efforts!

Yes. I can do a group buy for 3220s with lower numbers. I know I will not need 50 units for a decent 3220 price. Let me check the price and get back to you.

Matt

I just got off the phone with Bob from Astro Flight. I can get a discount on 3220s for a lot order of 20 units. I did not get a firm price, but it looks like somewhere in the $575 apiece price point will be pretty close.

I will get back to you when I hear a for sure price. He is due to get back to me by tomorrow at the latest.

Matt

I'll take a 3210.

Jason.

EDIT I think i rushed in to this,I'm going to go with stuff from cyclone first until i learn a little more.

Don't get too discouraged. :)

Can't speak for everyone else but I'm always kicking around several ideas. Like would a 3210 fit the bill now and I could always try to upgrade it later to sensored and/or deta-wye? If so what Kv would work now and later with just a minor reconfig of the reduction ratio (MTB crank driven setup for full 9 speed cassette, low unsprung weight, and not losing the rear disk)? A 3220 would have the same issues so I need to tackle these questions myself.

Give it a few more days of no time to do anything and I'll just pounce on the 3210 for no other reason but to get it over with.

Hi Matt,

Wouldn't the 8150 be a better deal (about $350 at the prices you are quoting) than a 3210? Substantially more power and a lower kv for only about $75 more.

An Astro 3210, 8150,3220 combined group buy might be a better bet. Instead of 50 3210's a total of 50 or 60 motors in mixed sizes. Bob probably makes a little more on an 8150 or 3220 than a 3210 so he should go for it.

OK, I can do 3220s for $550 apiece. :)

So, who wants a 3220?

you're kiilin me Matt! :D I really want a 3220, but need to wait for a bit more $$. when is the deadline?
could I get a 10 turn?
anodized black?

Chalk me up for one (edit: 3220 7 turn) with all 6 termiations available :D

Burtie.

was that for a 3210 or 3220?

Burtie.

That would be the 3220 (edit: 7 turn with 6 terminations). Sorry if I wasn't clear.

Having a hall sensor board available for this motor would be fantastic, I wonder what the chances are it could be retro-fittable :?:

I sent an email to Bob at Astro asking if I piggyback some 3220s with the 3210 group buy, if he will honor the 50 count 3210 price.

I think he may jump at it. So, this group buy may happen even though we are a ways away from the total number I needed. :)

I will let you guys know.

Matt

Hi Matt;

When do you need an answer re: a "definite purchase" commitment.

I'm interested, but haven't quite sorted out what I'd do with one just yet so have held off making any requests.
