Aussie, Brisbane & goldcoast people

I think the ride you mention John would be great so count me in. I would normally stick to pavement but I think hitting some tracks and hills would be a bit of a challenge and something I have not have built my ride on but interested to see how it would go.
Is this something we could do on a monthly basis or are ppl keen to do this on a more regular time. I was thinking that we could have some discussion at each meet to exchange info on ebikes to pass around the knowledge. One topic I get asked about is batteries and it would be a good start topic.

Great videos you posted.

Gday guys was good meeting you all and you couldn't ask for a better day . The link for the kick stand i had on my bike i know some of you ask me about it . http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/190769746934?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649.. i think he has them still ! It's been a while .
Ossielocal, I am thinking of buying one of these. Does the internal spring and detent hold the stand firmly when going over bumps?

Gday XLR8 ,so far so good but i manly ride on the road ..Maybe over time the spring might go they are only cheap !

I have a couple of people so far PM interested in trying some of the things I proposed, and if it would be better you could just meet at my house first and then go from here as a central point.

From the Gap we could choose to ride the path down to Downey Park or Red Hill or take the path up to the reservoir and then up to the off road stuff.

2 locked in and even if only 2 I am still happy to do the ride, as I do these rides even if I am alone.

The actually paths are not in blue, just the google road view. The actual paths follow winding creek bike tracks which are nowhere near as busy as the river ride we did.

Let us know if anyone is interested and we can change this around.

Thanks for the link Ossie, bought a black and a white kick stand last night.

I'm always up for a ride off-road, when are you guys thinking of going?

So here is a proposal:

This Saturday, 11am meet at my place.

You can charge at my place twice. Once on arrival if you ride to there. (Newb)
And then after we return from a ride up to some off road stuff. We could stop off at the shops and grab something to eat to recharge while the batteries recharge for an hour.

I've got road tyres and not doing any bumps. I will go along the firetrails and show you a few quiet single trails you can try.

So far it's me Hardcarve, Ossie and Newb who are interested (not sure if time and place suits yet). Anyone else let me know.

I was thinking on the way home for Newb I can lead him and anyone else down the bikepath toward the city. It is a longer ride so not sure if you are interested...

So up to you guys - the end of the ride for me could be Downey Park or Red HIll depending which way you want to go. check the map I posted above.

For the people already said they are interested - we can change day or time if it suits.

The only limit to how far is 10 AH - There is one mountain to climb which will chew a lot of it up. Then once up there they are smaller hills comfortable with run ups.

It is a 7 minute ride down from where the fire trails start. This is the ride down.

I know Newb and Ossie are keen to try the offroad stuff, myself personally I prefer bike paths and parks as my bike performed quite poorly up there last time. I suggest you guys bring a bit more padding for the slippery gravel.

Sweet, I'll likely be in for the new date, bike is up and running... so far. Wont be using regen for a while to avoid broken axles until I have my spare running healthy too :D

How's this Saturday the 17th looking for all you guys?

Forecast currently looks like possible rain on Sunday and cloudy on Saturday. Shame after all this perfect weather...

If 17th is clearly going to be raining we could try the 18th for those that still can if the weather might be better.

But let's aim for the 17th.

Are you keen to meet at my house first? Then PM me and I'll give you my address and phone (keep private thanks). Also leave your phone and real name thanks.

Or alternatively if you arriving by car with a full battery pack you could meet us up at highwood road. (you'll save a few ahs)

How's 11am?

A word about distances.

As you can see in the picture above - the road route is 5km - I was planning to take the creek bike path route which longer but more beautiful up - so let's still say about 7km to the top. Road route back. 5km.

so that's 12km.

Up to you guys what you do - but I only have 10 ah. I imagine about 5ah getting up to the top and back. And use the rest off road up there.

If any riders want to go further - up to you. Firetrails look pretty much the same however far you go down them. There are single tracks everywhere up there.

I won't be going on them on my bike but am happy to ride along side them or wait for you guys to try your skill at them.

After coming back down to my place and recharging & afternoon snack - I plan to ride down the bike paths toward the city = more suitable for most ebikes out there.

Sounds great. I've only got 10ah too so I'll be doing the same as you

Eh, that's tomorrow morning...I'm there!

I will not make it tomorrow as I have been sick since Tuesday and still feel like crap. Had to drive the car to work the last few days which I absolutely hate. Take plenty of happy snaps to post on here.

I believe if all ebikers in Brisbane wrote emails similar to this we might get some serious action happening - I just posted this to the council on their contact form.

I am an electric bicycle rider and need a place to recharge my bicycle in the city for about 1 hour to get 10 amp hours maximum. The cost of electricity would be about 20 cents maximum.

I note that you have

http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/traffic-transport/parking-permits/car-parks/kgs-car-park/index.htm

"Recharge your electric car for free in King George Square Car Park. Specially marked bays are located on Level ‘B’ for this free Council service.
Customers can now park their car in the city and recharge in one convenient location. King George Square Car Park is the only car park in the city with this facility which promotes the reduction of CO2 and pollution."

I believe that we shouldn't need to pay car or motor bike fees to park for an hour to promote green transport.

Is there anyway, place where we could be allowed to recharge near the city? I would be happy to pay up to $2 for the service even though it would cost you much less. Ebikers just need a powerpoint for up to an hour only.

Can we go to say under the story bridge or new farm park or newstead park and use the powerpoints for an hour and if we have to pay a gold coin? or just go to the carpark above and do the same.

Thanks for your time and I believe this is the way to the future.

JB

I finally got an email and a had a long chat on the phone. I was surprised, she actually took everything seriously and to some degree felt happy with council, my first contact with them apart from paying them... Someone mentioned topics we might discuss for our next meet, and well what do you reckon of this? For the next budget, we should make a group effort to contact our local wards or whatever with a strong case. Or is it just me that thinks charging stations should exist for us in the city?

Thank you for your online customer enquiry regarding the recharging of electric bikes in the city.

As discussed on the telephone this morning, I have made enquiries into electric bike charging facilities and unfortunately have not been able to find such a facility. Council does not currently have a facility at this time and is supporting sustainable and active transport initiatives through multiple commitments such as the City Cycle hire scheme and Better Bikeways Program. You can access further information on these programs and projects on our cycling website: http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/facilities-recreation/sports-and-leisure/cycling/index.htm?utm_source=corphome&utm_medium=mega_nav&utm_term=-&utm_content=image-version&utm_campaign=mega_tt_pt_cycling

The King George Square (KGS) charging station is for electric cars only. The electric vehicle charging station was established for Council electric vehicles and the Council was subsequently able to offer it for public use. The KGS Carpark is interested in improving their services for customers and I have spoken with and emailed the Carpark management as suggestion for a future service.

I have also spoken with Council’s Carbon & Energy Team in the Natural Environmental, Water and Sustainability Branch. The Team are very supportive of such an initiative however no project funding is available this financial year. A small feasibility study would need to be undertaken to investigate the need, operational requirements and costs of a charging facility. If the facility were to be endorsed by Council it would need to be located in a safe and accessible location, for example, a similar facility such as the electric vehicle charging station at the KGS carpark.

I regret that I cannot provide any additional commitment at this time. If you would like any additional information on our active transport projects, my contact details are below.

Kind regards, Anna

On the phone one of the issues that slipped out would primarily the safety, and she mentioned people dropping off their bikes unattended as possibly being dangerous. I sadly agree with all the Lipo stories I have heard.

It kind of makes me sad, which ever way I could turn it doesn't seem a possibility. If we had to sit to baby sit our bikes in a dark stinky carpark.... I was hoping for a simple shelter in a scenic park you could go have a picnic bite to eat while recharging enjoying the day.

mmmmmmmmmmmmm

Brisbane for Saturday Partly cloudy with an evening shower or two and possible thunderstorm. Light to moderate NE/NW winds.

Nice day for it guys:

Although are some amazing mtb trails - I propose to stay further away from the most popular ones. I plan to guide you up to the south boundary trail. There is a section where the death adder single track goes parallel for you to try. Note it is black diamond difficult! In the map look at the top left corner. We'll enter from highwood road.

2010GapCreekMTBTrailsupdatedmap.gif

Alternatively if you don't care what mtb riders think or say - you can try a more convenient easier downhill ride "rocket frog" we will be going past the entrance of it and if anyone wants to go down it, its easy for me to meet you down at the bottom as I will stick to roads with my crappy backrack.

Looks like a good day for it

I'm more keen on going flat out on firetrails - uphill though.

Singletracks are a bit better suited to normal MTB's, unless you're going uphill :p

It doesn't matter what we go on today though

see you all in a bit, were we aiming for 11am?

Yes 11am.

there will be enough firetrails uphill than your battery will handle
