Bafang 750w or GNG 650w

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out which engine is better to create an e-bike that fits my needs:


distance: 10km

900 meters in altitude

person+bike= 100kg


Reading around, I would like to buy one of these mid motors: Bafang 750w or GNG 650w.

which is the best?


Then I have to buy a good battery and I accept suggestion (I have no idea which is a good one).

I can only speak to my success, but I'm using a 450w gng with 48v 15ah. My commute is 12km daily with plenty of charge left. I've done over 20km pulling my sons bike with no problems...and no peddling. P
The rear gearing handles small to large slopes easily...even pulling the boy. There's only a couple hills out on the trails that I've had to assist peddle.
Kit was fast and easy to install...I had to equip my own connectors and harnesses.

So far it's been great. The drawback of gng is the parts failures and necessary replacements. I've slightly modified the drivetrain and though nothing has failed on me yet, I'm starting to replace things now before they do. The kit is cheap...price and quality. Well worth the deal if you're a tinkerer and a DIY type. Not worth it IMO if you just want to bolt on and never think about it again.

I presume the 60v gng will be the same deal. Though I hear the peddle cadence is worse

The Bafang BBS02 750W will be MUCH quieter. The GNG 650W can easily take twice the power, but very noisy. If you don't mind fiddling with stuff, you can upgrade parts of the GNG with LightningRods parts later on...

9% average grade for 10 kms, is a big long climb !
Choose your kit carefully as it is going to be a testing situation running at max power continuously !

If you can move this topic to here http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=28 it is where the crank drive experts hang out, lots of good info on both systems.
Or start a new topic in that forum and provide the info regarding speed, distance and incline etc. as people can't answer the question properly,I am sure you will get the info you are after, I have a couple of crank drives and a few hubs but have not pulled the trigger on the Befang yet, I love crank drives though especailly for hilly areas.

750W should give you 15 + km/hr up a 9% grade, but since you will be running pretty much at max output for the entire 10 km (40 mins), what i dont know is how long it can do that without overheating.

I found the simulator in ebike.ca. So useful!!

I think that I'll buy the bafang and I assist the bike to avoid overheating

To address the battery side of your question: if you estimate that you are assisting 100w and the bafang is outputting 650w constantly for that 9% grade, then I would suggest a 15ah battery @ 48v. Rough estimate is that you would use up 8 to 10 amp hrs of the capacity by the end of the 10km ride. Of course riding back, maybe no amp hrs at all. Cheers and good luck!
