Hey all I didn't get a chance to check with a multi meter, and I'm too impatient to wait. Are the bafang brake lever switches normally open or normally closed? I have to do something a little different for my bike and hoping I have an easy solution. Thanks!

Oh and how about a pic?

Wow that was quick. Thanks! I was hoping normally closed so I could set up some contacts in my levers. I'll have to figure out something else I guess.

Install a switch for the brakes and retain the levers I already have.

It might not even matter, I'm thinking about running it without pedal assist and I'm guessing the brake switches wont make a difference when using throttle only.

Find a US dealer of "Hidden eBrake Cutouts" and have a look at this thread for more info and choices.

Someone in the US is a vendor, I'd avoid BMSBattery if at all possible but this solves your issue and lets you keep the cutouts (they are useful even throttle only, if the throttle misfires in weather - mine has, or just a failure it can be a life saver since ebrake overrides all).

The slightest amount of back pedaling deactivates the drive.
Simple to do. Seemed like it would be odd but it isn't.

I tried the back pedaling. It works, but is a little awkward.

I took apart the brake switch and figured out how it works. It has a hall effect sensor and magnet in it. The switch is depressed when the brakes are off, which opens the circuit. When brakes are applied the switch is released and the signal wire is connected to ground.

So I'm gonna wire a push button to the ground and signal wire and install it on the side of my levers to act as a clutch button for shifting. I'll see how it works out and if I need a brake switch or not.

Or you could get one of these:

Why reinvent the wheel........?

That's what I'm looking at doing, but sadly it probably won't work for this particular setup.

My handlebar diameter is too big. Since I'm unwilling to swap them out I need to do a little tinkering. My display is zip tied on as the clamps are too small, same with the buttons and throttle. Its no big deal though, just a little more work. I can always machine parts and print some too.

A simple switch like this will work as well:

Great suggestion. I found a miniature pushbutton and installed it under the left hood it works but is hard to find I'm gonna rework it a little bit. I'll post pics of my solution when I'm done, but this definitely makes shifting easier.
