I am a doordasher I own two uart bbs02 both have over three thousand miles on them. Controllers are there weak point. You can get BBS02 under $500. I run in all weather conditions. Here what I learned keep the rpm high in high gear. Which means never have bbs02 in a gear that it can not achieve top motor rpm. It will go for ever. Keep you chain clean, lube and adjusted.Hmm too bad you have a 500 dollar limitation.
If you didn't have that, i'd recommend CYC Photon Gen 2 or lightest.bike mid drive ( only with the dual chainring option and throttle though ), because they are both lighter, more powerful, and more efficient.
Bafang is probably where it's at for you.
Swapping out the chainring was a bit more tedious, the bolts were very stiff and I had to use a vise grip on the backside to keep them from spinning.
I know its a 2b, I got one three years ago which was a 2b. Just didnt feel like typing a b.You don't have an impact gun? That should have worked w/o resorting to a vise grip.
You got a TSDZ2B, not TSDZ2, which is NLA? Looking forward to see how it works out on your recumbent.
No, no OSF on this one. It wasnt my first choice but the price was right. I've got about 1600 miles on one I put on a trike, it has vibration issues now but it still runs fine otherwise.Great hope it works well for you, I have had no problems with the TSDZ2(B)s as long as you do not try to turn them inside with the OSF regarding power output.
The motor that is on the trike (tsdz2b) developed a vibration after it was carried in a bike rack on a camping trip. I added the extra bearings but that didnt do anything to improve the issue. It only seems to happen when there is a heavy torque load, otherwise it runs normally. This particular motor has about 1600 miles on it. I'm not sure what I could do other than to tear it apart and look for something cracked or broken. When I added the bearings I noticed that they were fairly loose on the shaft, can't say that level of engineering impresses me, but hey, I bought another one.I run a mild mod with the OSF on my e-bikes to improve rideability, with the TSDZ2(B)s I have covered thousands of miles, my "main" mullet e-bike has a TSDZ2 drive with the axle third bearing mod and a mild tune up has covered well over 3000 miles, my latest is a 29er with TSDZ2B which again with the mild tuning mod and the axle mod. Is the vibration coming from your TSDZ2B drive? I have had this problem, the vibration was coming thro' the frame from the back wheel, the spokes had stretched, so I just rebuilt the back wheel with Sapim Strong spokes, did a mid-drive change to find that out, but did have a spare drive.

Its a Sun EZ Rider AX. Aluminum frame, 20" wheels, fairly high end components for what it was. Weight is about 35 before any mods. They made a steel framed version, that was about 40. There is also a larger version, it has a 26" rear and 20" front and is longer. I also have one of those sitting in the shed. I had a motor on it but took it off to put on the delta trike. What kind of recumbent is that? Weight before modding?

With that setup I would be using a 60 t chainring and would have a direct drive hub back there.
I love the TSDZ2 on my 42 lb Raleigh hardtail (currently 3286 miles), running great. It could break anytime knowing this motor. Two nights ago I bought as a replacement just in case:Pretty good price. $244 before taxes with free shipping for a TSDZ2B with EKD01, I bought a spare prior to the tariffs for $265 and prices have dropped. We have 4400 OSF miles each on a TSDZ2 and TSDZ2B with no issues that couldn't be addressed with some re-lubrication.
I learned that the odometer resets to 0 at either 9999 km or 4100 miles. I like the torque sensing, but I still want my bikes to give me 100 watts in level 1 with easy pedaling, like a hub motor, so I use the OSF.
Interesting that it has a rear suspension, no front. How does it ride and handle over pot holes and rough terrain? Its a Sun EZ Rider AX. Aluminum frame, 20" wheels, fairly high end components for what it was. Weight is about 35 before any mods.
