Hello there

I deeply appologise if I missed this topic, but this very well may be my last resort in fixing my e bike. The thing is I use it for work every single day, with no dealers or mechanics nearby. The e bike is relatively new, its a Cube Kathmandu with a Bosch CX preformance line motor. I was riding back home during a rainy day and my e bike just died on me on a hill, it just went off while flashing some error, I didnt have the time of memorizing at the time. Upon reaching my home I put it in the garage to dry, tried to start it, but nothing happened. The next morning I tried again and it did start, but as soon as I tried to ride it it died again, but this time I managed to get a good look at the error on the screen, it was 503019 drive unit error-power supply. So my question is this, what must I do to fix it, and can it be fixed?

Bosch diagnostic tools are limited to authorized dealers. Sorry you bought into a trap. I try to advise people to stay away from Bosch, Shimano Steps, Brose and other systems that resist your right to own and repair the things you bought.

I understand ... but no dealer around.., and I have no idea whether its the motor or the battery, each piece is quite expensive to obtain.. so any help is welcome.

Send a email to Bosch asking what to do about "503019 drive unit error-power" If they tell you to go to a dealer? Lie and tell them that there is a right to repair law in the area where you are at. Type right to repair into the internet and you will see what I see.

I would ask for a service manual.

If all else fails, include a Lawyer in your email Cc. If you don't have a email lawyer? Get one...... favoritelawyer@gmail.com ;)

Don't give up. Keep fighting. Also contact whoever you bought bike from.

rainy day
Put bike indoors in a dry place. Disconnect all connectors and take apart anything that might have got wet. Blow a fan on everything for days / weeks. Longer is better. 48 hours might be good depending on weather. Put it all back together. Pray and hope it works.

Hey, if it doesn't work out, you found the best place on the internet to learn about DIY.

A majority of members here have no experience with this prebuilt stuff because we like repairaibility/upgradeability and chose to DIY instead of buy. Good luck anyhow!

Assuming the programmers actually created the correct tree to end up at the right user-message for the actual error condition (not always true), then you'd have to determine what they meant by drive unit, and then what they meant by power supply.

If drive unit means motor controller, then power supply could mean either the battery that powers the whole system, or it could mean the converter that creates low voltages from that battery, to run various parts inside the controller.

Those are all assumptions that may have nothing to do with the designers' message process, but it's a place to start.

Unfortunately without a guide that translates designer-speak to reality for your specific version of your specific system, you're stuck with guesswork based on how typical systems operate.

Since the problem happened after rain, it's probably caused by water intrusion. Disassembly of the system and examining it for corrosion or other signs of water may lead to finding the initial problem.

My best recommendation is to look around at other troubleshooting threads for similar problems that you have, even though they're not for your system, may help point you to the parts of your system that are causing the problem.

But...even knowing what the problem is, it's possible you wont' be able to get parts to replace the problematic ones, and you may end up having to replace the entire assist system on your bike (even the battery), depending on how interdependent the designer made them.

Error 503019

The motor control is not working properly.

This may cause the eBike to switch off automatically and mean that no motor support is available.

Solution steps

Restart your eBike. If the problem persists, please contact your specialist dealer.

Me thinking. Wires or something got wet. Things get wet. Things dry. "Restart" is my favorite word.

Thanks for the reply. I did some research and 8/10 people told me my complete motor is probably busted, how.. I dont know. I watched the video of the guy cleaning it in the sink while water was pouring onto it, so.. maybe battery? I havent tried to replace it yet, even if it is a battery.. the new one is around 1k euros so thats off the map... I will probably give it a go in a week or two, if it fails then its off to parts market.

Test don't guess. Take some pictures of wires that come from battery, wires that go to motor. Smart people here will tell you how to test. If you don't have a multi meter? Buy one NOW.

8/10 people do not know how to diagnose a electric bicycle problem. I would not listen to them.

If water was cause of problem? Most likely that motor is not the problem.

Take battery out, spray the contacts and mating connector with Brake Clean. Use a tooth brush where possible. Blow dry with hair dryer on low. Idea is to clean off whatever low resistance path between contacts from getting it wet, possibly road salt and other contaminants.
