Brand new Bafang FM G060 .1000. D 06 has no clutch!

Hey guys brand new Bafang FM G060 1000 D 06. i am building a duel motor fatbike and purchased this motor for the front but i just noticed it’s just as hard to turn in both directions. Will take it apart. i want to coast down hills off road. i am so sick of the vendor misinformation on these motors.

Well close inspection (pic above and below) revealed that this is a solid gear assembly. There is no clutch....I guess now my question is why and why is it not revealed in the description of the motor. I am not interested in Regen I'm an off road pedal/fitness rider. If this is in a front motor does anyone have any suggestions for a clutch I can put in it. There are so many of them out there.

Modifying motor internals is beyond me, but if you are using a controller from Grin, you can enable the virtual electronic freewheeling option in software to help try to simulate a clutch.

Thanks! I have a Phaserunner so I will look into that. I know they make one way clutches but the information on them is so confusing. They have right and left directions and that changes with the motor model. The vendors do not give enough information in their advertisements and then you end up with a 250 dollar paperweight.

Unusual to get a "locked" clutch without it being specifically bought that way. I don't recall this problem ever being posted....


You might check with Grin Home page to see if they carry spare standard clutches for that motor. If not, a spare clutch for that model motor is probably available "anywhere" that sells such parts, or directly from Bafang if nowhere else.

In the meantime, linking the page you bought it from may be helpful to other people that *do* want a locked clutch version; that's a common enough need.

The problem with ordering is that G062's which have the cable coming out the left have a clutch that spins clockwise. All motors with the cable coming out the right G060's have a clutch that spins counterclockwise. Then theres the fact that the off brand clutches don't have any arrows indicating spin and the Chinese vendors don't put enough or accurate information on which clutch goes to which motor. I can speak to this as for two days I have spent online researching this till my eyes have bled! Try figuring out which clutch goes to my FM G060 1000 D 06 (front motor) which has the cable on the right and a 14mm axle. This is my last build with ANYTHING but GRIN components! Oh yeah...and now you have the G063's Let me just say I'm not a noob....I have built my own batteries from single cells and have wound motors in the past that worked. I have a hobby machine shop and made multiple parts for my bikes. The issue with all that is e-bike is China and how they market products.

Today while TRYING to order a clutch from Aliexpress I contacted a vendor showed them a picture (worth a thousand words....NOT) and the response was "are you sure this is a G060 motor, why does it have G020 on the clutch?" GOOD GRIEF.... I don't know why it has that on a solid clutch, I didn't make the motor or sell the motor or ship the motor. I just received a motor with a solid clutch and no one in China can tell me why, or tell me what clutch to replace it with.......REALLY!

Bought a clutch from Amazon and it works. Put the heavier duty wheels from the solid unit on the clutch and away we go. the last pic is a comparison of the actual clutch and the solid unit I took out of the motor. Got lucky the first time the fit was perfect and it spins correctly.

Following. Just bought this motor for a my own dual motor fatbike build. I'm new to ebikes in general but have a lot of mechanical/electrical experience with cars/boats/motorcycles/jetskis and was an engineer by trade. This is as much a science project as it is a bike build, so I don't want to spend a lot of money on parts I can't use or won't work together.

I'm using an aluminum fatbike frame from China with 190 drop out on the back and 120 bb width. I found a Specialized Fatboy fork on e-bay that I'm using which has a 135mm width. I searched extensively for motors to use, several used in the 100mm and "unknown" range. Decided on this particular motor, there were three different electrical interfaces and I couldn't find info on any of them. I did find a Bafang controller pinout which looks similar. I emailed the seller "hallomotor" to ask if their controller/display kit would work with the motor I just bought from them...they asked for a picture of the motor plug. Go figure.

This has been bench tested but that's it. I won't know about durability until I get it out on the trails.

That’s really odd, and that it’s machined that way (not welded). You might be able to sell it in the online marketplace subforum to someone who wants to add regen.

The GMAC's clutch is made that way, not welded, too.


so was the fusin 350w clutchless version, but i cant' find a pic of that one. it just had 3 arms from teh center holding the palents.

So, I bought this item from hallomotor on eBay (Bafang Front Hub Motor 48V 750W Brushless Gear Drop Out 135mm for Fat Tire eBike | eBay) for my dual motor bike, just got it today. Your Bafang front hub motor from hallomotor, has a 14mm axle. Mine is 12mm, and I believe it freewheels. I purchased a 14mm grin torque arm in advance, and also bought the same clutch that you bought thinking I would need it.

That's a 750Watt mine is a 1000. I guess they put the solid clutch and 14mm axle on the 1000.
