For all those that have thought about building a custom frame but thought it too hard or expensive

^^ this guy shows how it can be done

Before anyone asks the pre made parts can be sourced from here

wow. i noticed more brazing than welding in that video

Was no welding all brazing, thats how frames used to be done before mig and tig
hit the scene :)

My point for posting this was to show with less than 100 dollars in tools
and a few prefabbed parts & templates from the interwebz
for the tube notching with minimal skillz you can build YOURSELF a frame
out of high quality steel to suit your size and needs very cheaply.

IMHO 90% of the time it's pure laziness preventing most from attempting anything that involves more
than punching keys in front of a pc or clicking play on a dvd player :-S

hehe. if i could actually build things myself i would definitely do it myself, all i need to do now is learn how to weld. :D

i actually enjoy making things by hand, sure its time consuming, but its worth it in the end IMO. my latest creation:

my aluminum 8T got chewed up on my bike so i opted to make this 7T from steel to get my gearing down a little lower(i know, chordal motion on it will suck, but i need this for my bike to work  ).

Welding is easy enough with practice. If I can do it and build something like CrazyBike2's frame and stuff that can handle the crap I've put it thru, and my crappy trailer made of bikes and computer desks that was the first thing I welded together after practicing a while, and that has lasted at least a couple years I'd guess it's been, and not disintegrated yet despite hauling several hundred pounds of stuff (usually dog food) at a time, fairly often. :)

Welding is fun :D Ok not that fun but I recently picked up a welder after much complaining about my bike frame and it's insufficiencies and dragging my feet alot and just took my work of ? on a successful 30+ mile hilly ride this weekend.
Seat was too high for me to comfortably start/stop so I removed the mid-frame from this cruzbike

And made it more my style. This is only V1 but it held up to rough roads and a 270+ rider. If I have problems V2 will be a little lower and shorter wheel base. If not I'm going to make a non-suspended version.

Next I'm cloning my challenge hurricane's seat out of 2 layers of 1/4" birch plywood which I've never tried before and then Castle Creations ESC running a outrunner friction style for some two wheel drive action  Then on to a walk behind mower which moves itself by a wheelchair controller/hub motors.

I think it's definately something most folks could do and many I'm sure better then I. My experience with welding and grinding are pretty much this bike so no prior experience neccessary just practice, care and some destructive testing. Took a bit longer then 6 minutes for me though :)
