Bzhwindtalker's Blue FR (GNG mid drive)

Great vids,

I'm watching your thread on the gng most as I know you'll test it best :)
Ballsy efforts on the jumps, I thought you'd landed the grassy knoll leap, looks like you did then got a kick back in the other direction.
The gng looks like a really well priced unit, the build quality isn't that much of a problem IMO as long as everything electric holds up well everything else can be modded to a higher standard.
Keep smashing away BZW, sterling work!!!

I only plan a real upgrade of the bb/ cranckset and a better segondary tensionner. Other than that, no issues at stock power.

I received my lipo and i have a dead cell in my 2s pack :evil: 1,34v is way below recoverable. The other 13 cells were fine, 3,82v +-0,01v
I'll look this up this weekend as I have some important exams going on, but this sucks. I don't think 12s will be much fun compared to 16s LIfe or 14s lipo...

I got the new lipo pack working and the leaking cell recovered just fine with no sign of capacity loss or self discharge, good thing. The power incrase was really nice :) I changed the shifter to put it on the left side, and got some new higth quality grips, I now have a really nice and clean control setup. New rear cassete too, the chain does not skip any more even on the low gears. I have one of those cheap volt and AH meters comming in the mail, I did not feel like a cycle analyst would have been at home on such a bike.

I broke the belt today, it had maybe 10-12hours of riding on, not more. The motor bearings also started to make a LOT of noise, I think some water got in and they kinda rusted internally. I sprayed a lot of lithium grease hoping some will get in... The new belt should get there in a few days, It will be way too cold to bring the camera out for most of the week anyway and I would need winter gloves :shock:
 
I have the 475 mm one coming, I don't really see how the smaller one could handle the power with less belt warp, but it may last longer if it does!
I got a new superfat rear tire, with a very soft compound that will be really well suited to trials. I would like to go with a 24 inch rear wheel and a 3" downhill tire but i'll wait to get my wheels back from my old custom build when i'll take it apart. I also got a new helmet, as the old one took too much energy in the last crash :lol: I tryed some full face downhill helmets but i did not like the feeling at all and i don't want to look "gangsta" when i'm just fooling around the campus. I also had an idea about the freewheeling crancks setup and my BB problem, more on that soon! I'm planing some video shooting in the montains this weekend, I hope to get the system back in shape by the middle of the week.
 
New video! Not enougth riding footage, my pov cam really does not like low ligth :/ All my POv footage was unusable because of that, and some of the shots are so grainy! I'm saving up for one of the new gopros... The place I found is probaly a DH track, I spotted some markers on dangerous trees and stuff! Some of the downhill parts where very scary, even with 8" rotors and good hydro brakes.. I pulled 2 hours of riding from my 14s 5Ah pack and I unplugged it at 3,3v per cell. No mechanical issues to report, the bike did great. The chain got off a lot of times but I have no chainguide at all and the bike was bouncing all over the place on rocks :D

I bought a couple of these from sickbikeparts.com. Their long on the wrong side, made for gas motor conversions. I kept them anyway, may be able to press/move the bearings.

@Bzhwindtalker: Nice video work my man. Are you studying cinematography by any chance? You have the talent! Thanks for this link from the other thread. You're dealing with issues I can relate to. My homemade chain guide broke due to side-to-side chain slap. May have to go with the roller set-up. Meanwhile, I'll just continue street testing while you and Christerljung get all the bugs worked out. Thank you for your efforts, much appreciated!
 
I have one of these too, they are useless for our apps and have an inconfortable disymetry!
However thanks for the link, I always forget about this website for mid drive parts in EU...

I'm not, it's just a hobby I share with my brother. I'm on my 3rd year of mechanical Engineering.

I saw you kona build, looks cool with that golden motor inruner!

I mounted the 450mm belt, it's really tigth but seems to hold (limited testing). Looks pretty cool.
I went back home and got my 24" wide wheels back, and my 180mm travel forks too. I got them on the bike and what a differance :shock: the bike is way more nimble and "moto" feel, but still pedals nice. It trials HEAPS better. I learned some new tricks ;) I broke the chain 3 times on the last ride, but what a ride, wheeleying at 45kmh on a 25kg bike is awesome! I will probably get a 3" rear tire to replace the 2.6 duro leopard I have in the back for more wheely control, but it's already way better than with te 26".
However I have a problem, my formula brake is not compatible with my fork as it is POST mount and the bomber I had before is IS... I can't find the rigth adapter and the formula brakes mount is non-standard :x So I ride without front brake for now haha

It was really fun and the bike works way better with the wide 24" wheels and the longer travel forks.

The GNG really makes a good trials plateform. The thing haz torque, especially with the 11-60t primary drive and 14s lipo. I can't ride more, hands are on the edge of destruction with blisters from too much riding...

Sounds like a great setup. Your hands look like my old windsufing days sailing all week in Maui. Wear some gloves.
