Aloha, here is a photo of my CA setting at rest. I have no screen to show amps/watts increase as I roll the throttle. Seem to be stuck starting on 25AMPS /1612watts and jumps up to 75 amps 3500W or much more when accelerating. I googled faq's and called ebikes.ca and they did not have an answer but would "get back to me". It is new so hopefully not defective, but i have had it in the drawer for about a year.

Any ideas for settings I am missing? Is there a Multiplier setting or something I am missing?
thanks
Francis

  1. Zero the Amps (CA 2.3 manual: section 8.4)
    Most likely...
  2. Check RShunt setting (CA 2.3 manual: section 8.3)
May help if readings still a little wonky...
  3. see: "Appendix A. Calibrating the Cycle Analyst RShunt Value" of CA V3 [strike]Un[/strike]Official User Guide
May help if unsure about proper RShunt value - procedures are in V3 manual but apply to V2 as well...

Aloha, to get to "Zero the Amps" you need to get to the Advanced Menu and the manual says "The advanced setup menu is accessed by pressing and holding the
button when the message 'advanced' shows up at the end of the regular setup menu"

I do not have the message "Advanced" at the end of the regular setup. Where is it located?

I don't mess much with V2's these days, but let's see what we can do...

I just shot up a V3 with V2.4 code - which I believe is the current shipping V2 version and whose menus show a bit of mixed parentage from the V2.2x and V3 models. The 'Advanced Setup' as the last entry after pressing the right button 2 short presses after entering Setup.
  1. BASIC SETUP
    • Set Units
    • Set Wheel
    • Set #Poles
    • Speed Limit
    • Amps Limit
    • Main Display
  2. BATTERY SETUP
    • Chemistry
    • Set Capacity
    • Num Cells
    • Low Volts Limit
  3. ADVANCED SETUP
    • Set Range
    • Set RShunt
    • Zero Amps
    • Volt Calibrate
    • Averaging
    • Serial Output
    • PSGain
    • IntSGain
    • InAGain
    • IntVGain
    • ITermMax
    • ITermMin
    • Max Throttle
    • Set TotDist
    • Set TotAhrs
    • Set TotCyc
    • Aux Volatge
    • Aux Thresh
    • Vshutdown
A long press on 'Advanced Setup' gets into the advanced parameters and 'Zero Amps'.

  • So - starting at the beginning - what is the model number (e.g. 2.4) displayed on the splash screen when your CA boots?
  • What are the menu items you have in Setup?
  • Also - FWIW - Do you have a programming cable?

EDIT - Ah - missed the part about it being in the drawer for a year...
Re-flashed with 2.3 which I believe was the shipped version a year ago.
On entering setup I get:
  1. SETUP
  2. Set Units
  3. Set Wheel
  4. Speed Limit
  5. Amps Limit
  6. Low Volts Limit
  7. Main Display
  8. ADVANCED
    • Set Range
    • Averaging
    • Set RShunt
    • Zero Amps
    • Volt Sense
    • Set #Poles
    • PSGain
    • IntSGain
    • InAGain
    • IntVGain
    • ITermMax
    • ITermMin
    • Max Throttle
    • Set Ratio
    • Serial Output
    • Set TotDist
    • Set TotAhrs
    • Set TotCyc
    • Aux Volatge
    • Aux Thresh
    • Vshutdown
This is based on the original 2.2x layout.
Does this look like yours?

Aloha and thank for these instructions. I will check it out tomorrow as I put the CA back in the drawer after 2 frustrating hours of messing with it.

Aloha, I actually get neither of the above menus, and it is a 3.0 on the startup screen.
My screens are like this:

1) Setup speedo
2) Setup Battery
3) setup Throttle in
4) Setup Throttle out
5) setup speed Lims
6) setup Power Lims
7) setup pas Sensor
8) setup Trq sensor
9) setup Temp Sensor
10) setup Aux out
11) setup calibration
12) Setup presets
13) setup Preferences

Looking through all the drop down menus, I do not see anything about zero amps.

thanks francis

Oops.
Totally difference device (V2 vs V3). Wrong manual.

You want to be looking at the CA V3 [strike]Un[/strike]official Guide downloadable here.

The RShunt and Zero Amps stuff are in the CA Calibration submenu.

That said, I'm guessing you just plugged this up and it's working on defaults. For new controllers and moderate power motors it will generally work okay out of box, but you should read the installation section which talks about the RShunt and 'Zero Amps' steps. Also do the throttle setup to eliminate throttle dead zones, etc.

Best to sort of forget everything you read in the V2 manual - everything is different in the V3... :D
