On Earth right now. That can change at any time, t
Hey Guys,

Well, I have been talking about this for quite some time and now I am making it a reality......

The foundation of this build is a design exercise to work out the details of my big X6 twin motor build I am doing for a client. His bike requires some huge work and some very interesting design bits. I had been looking into mocking up some of the parts for his bike when I had a revelation. This little Hooligan is a small version of his twin motored monster. It has many of the same component mounting issues and frame layout as the X6. Therefore, doing a quick build of this bike will function as a mock-up for the X6. With that in mind, I began this build yesterday.

The bike is a Cannondale Hooligan 8 with White Brother's RC80 forks. The brakes are Hope (2 piston rear, 4 piston front). The drive is my V4 (the DaVinci does not fit in the tight confines of this frame) with a 4 turn 3220. The bike weighs exactly 35 pounds as shown here.

I will be mounting 40 amphours of 12s lipo on the bike (yes, it will all fit). I may move to a fan cooled 3 turn 3220 and take this bike to Pike's Peak this year. Heck, I could even do twin 3220s if I mount the drive in a different spot. But, I think that may be too much power and may kill the range.

Anyway, I have the packs ordered. This bike will be quick to build and will set the stage for the pack layout of the big X6 build.

Oh, as always, this bike will be up for sale as well. If it sells, fine. If not, it will be my newest demo bike.

Enjoy.......

Matt

It's about time!
I love that frame.

This is my favorite frame layout as well, for a 20 inch bike.

Wait till you see it done. The packs will be below the down tube, flanking the sides of the frame, and above the top tube. It will look somewhat like a mini Stealth.

This thing should be a wheelie monster!

The V4 and DaVinci are pretty much as developed as they can be without throwing a huge amount of time and money into a tiny bit of improvement.

The crank drive is finally moving forward, however. I have a OEM contract to develop a drive system that will require a few parts needed for the crank drive. So, that project is propelling the crank drive forward again.

The battery may be in separate sections so I can remove what is not needed for shorter rides.
That should help with the look.

For left side drive, the freewheel is easier to mount on the jackshaft.

Easier to mount on the jackshaft yes, but not as good in my opinion. Little to no impact if not pedaling tho.
I have only seen one really sleek solution of it so far, my own being functional but not so great.

There are advantages and disadvantages both ways.
The good, freewheel on jack shaft
Less torque to freewheel
Easier to mount
Able to use disc brakes
Less slack in freewheel

The bad, freewheel on jack shaft
Chain turns with wheel
Pedaling has more drag
Coasting has more drag
Limits amount of reduction

The good, freewheel on wheel
Chain does not turn with wheel
Least pedaling drag
Least coasting drag
Drive sprocket can be smaller

The bad, freewheel on wheel
Most torque to freewheel
Difficult to use with disc brakes
Greater slack in drive system

Great looking build Matt! As usual with your stuff

Are you going to make the trip Matt?
It is an epic hill....

You should make it a MONSTER with tons of lipo and just DESTROY all comers! Average like 40mph! Lol!

I am looking to gear it for 45mph so I can average 40mph.

I have to do all the math to make sure that is possible, though. I asked Miles to help me with the calculations. It should not be difficult to calculate the weight, the average grade and distance to get an idea of how much power is needed for the trip up the Peak.

Yeah I was kind of joking about the 40mph! You're going to need to pull a trailer for the batteries!! But hey go for it!

are you looking at the PPIHC race with the motorcycles & auto's in all classes?

that is different than the(august i think) bicycle run up the hill.....I can't find the thread....

More than likely.
Thank you.
