carbon fiber vs wood bike frames?

very nice,i live by a shipyard and see gigantic vessels always up on wood, must be something to it.

Wood is nature's composite, very strong fibres (that are largely carbon) held together with a pretty strong adhesive. It's very under-rated in terms of its strength and stiffness relative to its weight. Used sensibly it can come pretty close to matching the best high tech composites around, but has some disadvantages, like being a bit inconsistent and only coming in relatively straight lengths.

They really operate more like kick scooters but carry phenomenal loads.
Tom Ritchey set up a "coffee bike" project in Rwanda. It's building sweet long tail cargo bikes to replace the traditional wooden ones.

I looked at the photo gallery on the site and it made me realise how much I miss my time out there, and would go back, but you do wonder, with projects like that how long the projects will survive if and when the whites that help set them up leave, and the locals sell off the equipment to make a quick buck and then go back to how they were before. Saw the results of that sort of thing in Uganda, projects that were abandoned and kit sold off soon as the westerners left the locals in charge

Nice :)

I've just had a thought,,,,tI reckon one of the rubber tyres fitted to those wooden wheels would fit straight on a Xlyte hub motor...no rim or spokes needed...
