Christiania Bike conversion

Oh, I wasn't criticizing, just pointing you to it if you hadn't seen it, though it doesn't have any answers either, other than that potential lead you found. (too bad we can't get everyone to come back and actually post results and whatnot; it probably happens less than a quarter of the time, possibly less than a tenth).
 
I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to pass on this information. I have made this modification, Bafang BBSHD and have become ok to weld in aluminium. Now I've done about 4k kilometres and the biggest problem I've had is that this setup definitely needs a torque arm. I've tried cutting one out myself, it hasn't worked. So now I have CAD designed a really good one that I will send to production in a few hours. What I'm saying is, if you don't have a torque arm, you risk the frame breaking at the transition from wheel to frame.
