Has anybody converted a brake lever to work as a throttle? We use to replace thumb throttles on jet ski's with finger throttles. I found you had a better grip on the bars and only needed one finger for throttle control which always seemed less tiring. I know they were cable controlled, not electric like the bikes but knowing the way people have come up with all sorts of creative solutions here I wondered if anybody had done this? It would be on a 250W powered bike with a coaster brake so the rear brake lever would be the one to be used for the conversion.

Yep, I use a brake lever for a throttle on my daily driver. The brake lever pulls a standard brake cable, in the controller box it is connected to a spring and a (linear) potentiometer.

Best is a straight potentiometer:

I AM dreaming of a controler that will handle a virtual clutch signal. To manage power and speed signals separately would be a major improvement for performance ebikes.

+1 Slippin the "clucth" to dig in through the tight stuff would be tits! The next step in evolution.....

I think that Arlo did that already. the brake lever is modified with a strain gauge and a little circuit.

He made a variable regen lever but with zero move.. just torque applied to the handle.

This is nice!

wouldn't that be pretty dangerous for any other who rode Your EV?

Only if you didn't know which means you have stolen it so tough luck  of course the front brake would have a motor cut-off so as long as both levers were pulled it wouldn't be an issue anyway.

It's like anything, tell somebody what they need to know before they use it and they should be fine. In Australia we can only have a throttle for 200W or less motors or for a 250W if it is only operable up to 6km/hr which sucks IMHO so this allows for a very stealthy solution that would not be obvious to most.

for those running across this thread, i made a how-to thread for one variation
