And in this case, I'm thinking the lesson may be that nobbies, while ok in crunchy snow, are no subsitution for studded tires!

Around noon. Mostly melted by then. The rain was actually ice melting from the trees.

No school fpr my son so I got an early start. Crashed in the dark on a reversed bank curve on the trail. My pedal scraped the ice off the asphalt went back home and got the bike with studded tires. No problem then. I was surprised that there was ice with temperatures above freezing. Lots of branches weighed down and one tree had fallen.
