Cube Nulane Hybrid review & modifications

For years I was looking for a lightweight gravel e-bike with a mid-drive motor as the base for my Maxun One solarbike. But suitable models were not available on the market. That only changed when Cube released the Nulane Hybrid C:62 SLX 400X. This bike weighs just 14 kg.

In my opinion, this is one of the best gravel e-bikes on the market. At €4200 the price is also quite reasonable, since other e-bikes with this low weight and level of finish are more expensive at other brands.

Personally, I find the handlebar of the Cube Nulane Hybrid uncomfortable because it is too low and too straight. In this article I describe how I replaced the handlebar and how I further modified the bike.

I wouldn't call it one of the best myself, one of the cheapest definitely. When hunting for bikes suitable for a conversion I visited a few bike shops, most here are brand specific and carry just one or 2 brands. I went to 99Bikes and they had Cube and Medina. I was unimpressed with the Medina offerings and more so with the Cubes.

It always pays to do diligent research when spending bucks.

A big issue is apparently a fork recall. A composite fork no doubt. I would NEVER buy an ebike with composite frame of components.

Cube Agree C62 Recall - no information updates or progress:

I bought a new Cube Agree C62 last year and this bike has been subject to a recall on the fork due to instances of these forks cracking. I found out about the recall in the press and not directly from the Cube dealer.
Local dealers have been good in processing the claim but no updates from Cube have been issued and their original target resolution dates have long gone. Two months in and no information when I may have a bike to ride.

CUBE has issued an immediate, mandatory recall for 2025 and 2026 model year Agree C:62 road bikes sold before Nov. 30, 2025, due to a severe fork failure risk. Insufficient resin in the carbon fork can cause cracks above the left brake mount under heavy braking, potentially resulting in complete fork failure.

PROHIBITION OF FURTHER USE​

As part of our regular quality controls, we would like to draw your attention to a product safety recall affecting certain models. The recall applies to all CUBE Agree C:62 bikes from the 2025 and 2026 model years that were delivered or sold before 30 November 2025.

Their regular quality controls? Sounds to me like it totally missed "Their regular quality controls" and it took a few collapsed forks to bring it to their attention.

The weight-to-price ratio on this model is hard to beat right now. It’s cool to see someone actually modifying these instead of just riding them stock. I’ve always felt that some of Cube’s setups are a bit low in the front, so a bar swap makes total sense for better comfort.
