CYC Photon motor DOA?

I installed my new Photon Gen 2 motor kit onto my ICE Sprint trike. I set up the display and synced the ride app, and set off for a test ride. Nothing happened. I received no assist at all. I tried the throttle. The motor seemed to be binding, but after a second it let go and the throttle worked ok. The trike still pedals fine with no assist from the motor, nice and smooth.

I reviewed all the literature and watched some videos that night. I went out the next morning and double checked everything. It was fine as far as I could tell. It should work but it still does not. When pedaling, the display indicates that there is no cadence and no assist. It does show the volts available from the battery, so it does recognize the battery. I tried the throttle again, but now the throttle does not work either. It is the same no mater what assist level is selected and in either race mode or street mode.

I have contacted both CYC and the reseller and am awaiting a response.

Any thoughts or similar experiences?

Almost went CYC. You could ask a fellow named Johnny NerdOut through his retail store. He claims to know everything e-bike.

Is your speed sensor and magnet set up correctly? No kinks or bent pins? 10 mm on clearance over the arrow and not over the rounded part? Assuming it uses the same speed sensor like everyone else's. I went with a Bosch Spoke Magnet on mine, much better than those cheap things I've seen come with speed sensors.

If the kit uses brake cutoff sensors, I’d disconnect them while troubleshooting to eliminate that variable.

Johnny Nerdout will help you or replace if you bought from him . If you want help without purchasing a small consolation fee is charged.
