Dual motor setup for cargo trike?

Geared setups are a big no-go for me. The tiny chain and delicate little cluster are far from adequate. I'm a beast on drivetrain parts and my current setup is going to go before it breaks. Just pedaling uphill on my hardcore bikes I still have to be careful not to tear the chain apart or rip the teeth off the sprockets. I'm big, legs like tree trunks, size 17 feet and I can generate inhuman amounts of pedal power. I already tore the flanges off the first rear wheel when I forgot to baby it and gave a medium force pedal stroke.

I've got an 8 speed internal rear hub but I've never used it because I think I'd shred it in the first climb, I don't trust it.

I'm going to start today and if I have a good sales weekend my finances may get a boost and that will speed this whole thing up.

I got a Twitter set up for the trike. @Rusty_Mustard check it out if you want to see what I'm doing with it.

I can relate,, I used to ride nothing but high gear, and broke chains all the time, in my youth. Now I'm an old fart, and smart enough to gear down for the hill, and crawl up it slow.

Wont have to crawl, with two 500w front hubs a pulling you, each one powered up to 1500-2000w. 8) Mostly, you wont wear out chain cuz no way that trike is geared for going that fast. You won't be able to keep up in that gear.

So go for it. Nothing really wrong with the throw power at it approach, as Mad Rhino suggested. A 3000w rear hub'l do er fine too.

Simple to just run two motors and two controllers from one throttle. I just suggested the mid drive approach, to save you about $1000 on battery, if you go lithium. Big power requires big expensive battery. But you can draw the same power from a tiny battery, if solar or whatever provides the juice.

Right on!

Last night I rolled around town fully loaded and it wasn't too bad to Pedal. It was fun and I made some decent money in a few hours

I'm surprised I didn't snap the chain though. I was able to do all the work I needed to just by pedaling so if a motor can take just some of that load off that would be great so I think I'm going to go with the 500w Hub Motors.

I've been riding aggressive and hardcore disciplines all my life, bmx, free ride, trials, and such, but the past few months I've been riding an old univega road bike. It's a strange adjustment and I keep finding myself instinctively hitting jumps, doing wheelies, and bunnyhopping over stuff. I hope I don't kill it.

Thanks again for the advice, hopefully within a week or two I can get the stuff ordered
