Just to let everyone know there torque arms are all done and packaged and will ship in the morning. Sorry for the delay, but you all have new improved version.

I see the new version doesn't have the slot but still looks bent. Could you use a 10mm spacer between the frame and bracket instead of bending the bracket?
 
Yes.
I have supplied 10mm spacers for the caliper mount, could also supply 10mm spacer for torque mount, would eliminate the bending process. Though the bending is pretty easy.
 
Kiwi i dont mean to be harsh.
But I would feel more confortable if it was a single piece with the displacement needed.
 
I have the HS3540 motor which has a small amount of straight edge on the axle...way to go Kenny :( So it does move about in the dropouts a bit. I bought Doc Bass awesome total overkill torque arms, these ones though do solve the disc brake issue.
 
I have spun my HS axle in my Greyborg drop outs twice. A torque arm is a must if you are using the Hx motors in my opinion. I just got my torque plate from Kiwi today, looks awesome.

I have also toyed with the idea of drilling an allen bolt through the back of the drop outs, to turn the drop outs into a pinch type arrangement.
 
Thought that I would take a break on this forum from randomly screaming about the insanity of drug policy to actually post up some some shots of my 'Borg. In preparation for xmas I was going through some photos and realised I had a bit of a progress history I should have stuck in a thread.

This was how the brilliant Croation Team of Hal and Accountant sent me the frame:

There's a bunch of stuff in the middle where I built the aluminium boxes with angle and sheet, which I will upload later. It's running 20S, 50amps, 24Fet Lyen.

I have way better photos of all of these, but I figured as I was running past these in my digital record I should chuck them up here. This post will be improved.

NB The photo above shows a modded 9C. I now run an HS3540 which is running a treat, and will shortly drop in the 5404.....

This bike is hilarious though. I have owned insanely overpowered motorcycles throughout my life, but everyone who rides it just shakes their heads at the lunacy. Hal has a hallowed place in ebike history....

This was shot very early on, before an initial testride. I have way better close ups with what I have done, but they are on a different computer and camera. I just wanted to get these up in the meantime.

EDIT: I should explain, in the two battery compartments, are two alu boxes I built out of angle and sheet, with pop rivets. I will post up shots of it when I find the photos. This keeps the lipo in a totally protected enclosure, but the side sheets can be screwed off to replace individual lipo packs if need be. Having said that. I ride this thing everyday as my sole transport, I only ride to 50% dod most days, and charge everyday. Have seen almost no noticable loss in pack strength. you have to love lipo.

I actually think if a skilled rider (other than me) took this against a stealth bomber it would be negligble difference in performance (I mean if current/motor were the same). I literally can't fault Hal's geometry on the frame - the guy is a visionary.
 
Kiwi, those torque arms are very nice. They are 4mm stainless, right? Any chance you might make some a bit thicker? At this power level it may be prudent. I suppose one could stack a pair on each side, but a single thicker plate might be the best.

I run 20S@50amps, and I have a Kiwi plate on one side, and an ebikes ca torque arm on the other side, and it is tight as, with no movement at all. I haven't seen any distortion of the torque arm axle slot yet, as even though it could be thicker if you wanted, it is hardened steel. Whereas with the "amped bikes" torque arms I have used on other bikes with that power, which I used to get a lot of wear/distortion on, I haven't seen any yet on the Kiwi arm yet.
 
Yeah they are 4mm. You could go to 5 or 6mm, but there is no real reason for the rest of the arm. Another option would be to double it up just around the axle hole, tig weld on a second piece. If people have failures, then we can look at this.
 
Justin did tests (there's a long thread on ES about it), and found that 1/8" was insufficient for a Nine Continents motor and he changed to 5mm for his arms. This new Cromotor likely has more than double the torque of the 9C. I suspect, based on the published test data, if the nuts are loose, and the dropouts are not holding most of the torque that this torque plate will fail, or cut the axle, especially if there is none on the other side. I would like to see it double thick, and a similar plate for the other side. Perhaps install two of them stacked, any reason that would not work? Then put two of the Ebikes.ca arms on the other side.

Justin also said 9C axles are hardened, and they have gear at the factory he saw used to measure the hardness. It was in the thread about his factory visit, if I recall correctly.

I have a set of DocBass torque plates. Those are really substantial. But they don't handle the brake mount. This torque plate is really a nice design for the 'borg.
 
Hey off topic but anyone have any vids of their both bikes using a cameraman? I am curious how you "look" on it??
 
I seem to be having an issue installing my torque arm/ rear brake mount and cannot quite work out why? I ordered adapters from IS to post mount and the front worked fine, I seem to be 5/8 of an inch adrift for things to line up and I cannot see why? The disc and the frame are less than a 1/4" apart so I cannot offset the wheel too much, I thought of putting the torque arm on the inside of the frame which would help but does not seem right. The only other thing I can think is the I have a wrong adapter between brake mount standards? Over 1/2" seems too much just to pack with spacers or washers. Open to sugestions and thoughts if there are any that have had a similar problem.

I think you are meant to brake off the four circles from the front, and use two of those as spacers, between the adaptor and the torque plate.
 
Cheers Phil, I will give it a go, I was wondering what the 4 circles were about, I thought it was decorative! I think I am going to have to tweak something else though to get it to line up.

Great to see your Borg up and running, it look great. Do you have a good bulk charging solution for your battery or do you have to do it in small parts?

Yeah, I actually didn't get my Kiwi plate to operate as the brake mount, I actually have the brake mounted with the Hal made plate, and then I have the adaptor plate stuck over that, so that it operates as a torque plate, but not a brake adaptor. I did it that way as I had already put all the work into getting the alingment with the Hal plate, I didn't want to have to go through it all again when I didn't need to.

re charging I can either split my series connection and charge as two 10S packs, with my two Icharger3010B and two seperate 30amp 26 Volt PSUs, which allow really fast charging, otherwise I also have a bulk BMS battery bulk charger which is 84V 11Amps, which i use for out and about.

Yours is looking like the most interesting of the Borgs so far, will be interested in seeing it all finished and going.
 
Yep as above, break off the spacers, they should pack the adapter out to near where you need it. Not intended for decoration.
