E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

Proper welcome to the world of Stealth, you read the whole thread??? Well it says a lot about the level of crowd support that *no* other production bike can approach.

What issues are you having with the gears? My VBoxx is over 3 years old, think I might have cleaned it once, still going strong.

Definitely the helmet has a lot to do with visibility. Full-face helmets reduce your visibility and situational awareness while seemingly making you more visible to others by an order of magnitude. Of course they offer a lot more protection and prevent the usual mouthful of bugs I get on some rides.

Also best to charge wherever you can. Obviously you cant charge sometimes and if you have enough remaining to get you home then no worries. Ideally, it is better to find a place to charge at your destination before you ride home, more power available & less stress on the pack.

Yep, strange enough, I found reading the forum really relaxing while watching the longer version of Stealth vids at the same time. I recently lost my father in September and the forum along with guys riding in Oz or in Columbia took my mind off of everything. I have a background in cycling and the vids got me all fired up again. In the few days that I've owned the Stealth, I've gone on some real long rides, visiting some parks where I used to hike with my dad over 20 years ago (I'm 36 now). He was also an Electrical Engineer so learning all of the ebike terms in the forum posts reminded me of my dad.

The full face helmet is definitely keeping my face warm while the temps in Canada drop to near zero. I'll definitely try to charge up the bike as much as possible. Any idea how to take out the battery? I had opened it up since the battery shorted on my second ride when I went off roading (had to unplug the big square connector). I tried to force the battery out but it's wedged in there pretty good.

So sorry to hear about your loss. But remember, wherever you ride on those trails, your father is there with you. My dear old dad is 97, he just keeps on going!

The wedged in battery is a strange one. Can you lift it up while pulling it out? Is it visibly caught around any edge? Also is there any padding around it that you can shift?

Thx Rix!
When taking out battery, I slowly pull it out by the upper side, when I see the top corner of the battery I continue to pull and it will be out.

That's a pretty big hill alright. How high, 2000' (600 m)?
It's about 750m altitude where I stacked according to Google Earth. From the point I started braking hard to the point I crashed is about 15m vertical elevation difference. At the initial speed I was going (about 45kmh) it was almost like falling straight down as I went over the last rise.

Rix said:
CD, yah that was what I call a nice stack. Any stack you can ride away from is a good stack. Rick
Agreed.
I had the option rush through my head at the time...Do I brake as hard as possible and not worry about turning?...or...Do I risk turning on loose gravel at high speed with these (not so great) tires?
Had I gone the latter option and somehow made it, I probably would have been approaching 80kmh by the time I fully recovered and was able to hit the brakes again. That kind of speed on stuff that steep with loose gravel is insanely difficult to pull up from.
In hindsight, I know I made the right choice. :D

Cheers

Greetings everyone,
I spent a good month reading every post since the beginning of this thread and finally found a dealer in Toronto with a Stealth Bomber in-stock. Picked it up last Wednesday and am blown away by the power of this bad boy. There are three of us in Toronto with this bike and I'm glad, because with great power comes great responsibility!
Since I have a fresh Bomber, I have the issues with the gears i.e. 8th, 6th etc. And based on my riding (about 70-100km a day), I'm wondering if I really need to charge it after every use since it's a bit difficult to find a charger where I tend to be parking the bike.
My only issue with the bike is that it gets a lot of attention...ambulances slow down and the paramedic in the passenger seat asks me questions (this has happened to me 4 times already) and random drivers match my speed to see how fast I'm going (which isn't very fast, but faster than a normal bike). I'm usually pedaling all of the time but I think my MTB DH helmet gets a lot of looks and then the bike.

Anyhow, stoked to be part of the club.

Welcome to the club Proper159. Yah, these machines do get attention. I rode with my dad of in Idaho this past week. While yielding to Hikers, as they walked by, they would stop and ask questions and chat things up. It added time to the ride, but I didn't mind at all and who knows, may have even sold one for Stealth the way one guy and his wife were talking. She wanted him to quit motorcycle riding after a crash last year, he said he probably could quit riding MCs if he could replace his bikes with a Bomber. As far as charging goes, top your battery off as much as possible. These batteries aren't like NiCads. They don't get a shorter memory from half discharge and recharging. If anything, the research I have seen is the life of the battery will be extended by keeping it charged up. This is especially true in cold temperatures. So, what color is your Bomber?

Yah CD, could have, should have, may have done something different to save from stacking, but no guarantees. You got it stopped and didn't screw yourself or the Fighter up. That's tits in my opinion.

Thanks Remf, I certainly feel my dad's presence when I'm deep in the woods with Fall leaves on the ground.

There isn't any padding but I can't seem to move it beyond a few MM. It's okay for the time being, but I'd like to keep the battery topped off as much as possible and at my girlfriend's condo, there aren't any plugs nearby.

Well you'll want to remove it some time soon. Not sure if it'll help but if you post some pics or video, there's literally hundreds of engineers & other knowledgeable people ready to assist.

Thankx Rix, yep if I had any advice for new or interested owners....keep pedaling at all times if you're worried about too much attention. Got followed today and eventually the unmarked vehicle passed me after watching me pedal for 5 minutes. I'm actually glad the Bombers are so expensive because the general public wouldn't know how to handle all of the power. Yep, had several discussions with Motorcycle peeps today, they seem way more into the technical aspects of the bike.

I stopped by a bike shop I went to last night to replace the seat with a gel seat and Knog back light, the technicians were so stoked when they tried it out in the parking lot. Okay cool, I charged the bike before my shop opened and then moved it to a basement locker in my apartment across the street (I rented out my apartment to my friend but I'm using the locker). Unfortunately there aren't any plugs near the locker, so after riding 40 km, I plug it on my retail shop floor before the shop opens and then move it to my basement parking lot. I get so much attention on the street that I have to ignore all of the curiosity and comments or else I'll spend an hour just chatting with people. I have the Jet Black Stealth Bomber, #174.

The VBoxx's 8th gear is smoother today, but still a little raw. The even numbered gears are a bit rough vs. the odd numbered ones. I really need 8th and 7th gear if I want to keep pedaling to avoid too much attention.

I was going to buy the Teva Links Mid DH shoe but everywhere is sold out of my size. My Nike Air TR Max's were already worn down and today's ride froze my toes. I ended up going to a skate shop to buy some regular Supra skate hi top shoes with a weather coating on top. Feet were still numb on an hour ride back home, but I find the flat skate shoes are great on the stock pedals and for when I place my foot down at a stop light. I bought a full armour vest which really keeps my core temperature warm while the solid spine protection supports my heavy bag (I carry my computer, the bike battery charger and my Brita water bottle (3/4 empty). I wear G-Form elbow pads with a regular Tshirt and then a thin hoody followed by a new North Face wind breaker/shell. I got some Fox MTB gloves and they work great with the throttle but my hands got pretty cold today (8 degrees without the wind chill). I also wear a G-Form padded shorts for hip/tail bone and thighs, gonna grab the knee pads and shin guards that fit under my jeans. I bought a pair of WESC jeans at a local skate shop and they have a slight stretch to them which is great on my bike, also they are not totally skinny, but skinnier on the bottom leg so I don't have to worry about the pant cuff catching onto anything. With my DH MTB helmet, I wear Oakley's with interchangeable lens, gonna have to switch to googles pretty soon. I have one ear bud in my ear to hear my real time Google GPS on my phone tell me which streets to take to avoid traffic, so far it's really helped me speed through traffic. Toronto has been rated as the most congested city in North America.

Tomorrow I'm going to wear my Heart Rate monitor with my Motorola MotoACTV watch to see how many calories I'm burning on a typical commute ride. I know on my other Ebike I was burning about 900 calories, but as soon as I shifted one gear down, I was only burning 500 per hour (I'm 205 lbs). In 7th and 8th gear on the Stealth, I think I'm burning 500 calories per hour, so total 1000 calories a day with an assumed avg HR of 116-130 (Fat burning). If I continue burning 1000 calories a day x 6-7 days, I could lose up to 4 lbs of body fat a week. On my other bike I lost 10 lbs of body fat in 3 weeks with the same diet. Perfect as I'm retuning back into Muay Thai fighting in a few weeks. I've been really focused on bringing down the wattage to around 700-900 watts, although uphill I see the number go up to 2000-4000 watts. My Regen is about 6%, would love to see 1 AH go back into my battery as my second ride I ran out of juice and got stuck in the rain pedaling 4km which was pretty tough but not impossible.

Gonna visit my dad's grave as well tomorrow. Looking forward to telling him about my bike, in Engineering terms at least:)

Under $9500 CDN before taxes. They also threw in a ton of gear including my DH helmet at 15 to 40 % off. I recommend reading the manual or Stealth forum support threads (copy and paste from the manual)before you buy from a retailer. ..bike shop was knowledgeable but a handful of things I didn't know about regarding the battery, riding efficiently and how important your watts and AH are I.e. when you get to 17 ah it's time to go home!

Yeah I think all Stealth bikes have regen. I didn't know how to properly use it at first so I was breaking with my left and pressing the regen button, but with enough time I just press the button about 15 to 20 feet before the stop sign and it feels like an engine break. Only thing is that it's abrupt so watch out for cars behind you and today I skidded out on some wet leaves. Not sure if I'd use Regen on snow during the winter. I still make sure I have a digit over my left break.

Honestly, if I hadn't read every single post on this thread I would have no idea about anything, especially how to program Cycle Analyst and knowing right away that Bomber #174 didn't have cycle analyst 3.0. A combination of the top posters (Hyena etc) and Dlogic's post about the battery temp (15 C) after riding for 2 plus hours in -20 C is what got me fired up about the bike in Canadian weather conditions.

actually need like 20-30 to breaking well then it was a good buy cause i pay a little more

I'm pretty sure you'll be able to get it out, because they did get it in there, and it doesn't grow LOL.

We bought our Bombers from the same location. I tried out yours in their old parking lot on Lakeshore Blvd. before putting in my order for my all white version. There are actually four of us now in Toronto.
You got a great deal on that Bomber! We should meet up next spring when the weather improves (another week before mine gets stored for the winter). I know some awesome riding spots where the Bomber really shines!

Yep definitely true. Just seems caught on something. The more I think about it, I'll need to take it out quite a bit if I want to always top off the battery. Too bad I don't live in a house with a garage full time although I heard that the battery takes much longer to charge when it's really cold out. Does the charge adapter build up any condensation/frost internally if I'm charging the bike in the dead of winter inside a garage?

Lol Steve at the Bike Zone told me about you. Right on, definitely would be up for a ride in the spring. Gonna try to ride throughout the winter. My gf lives in Mississauga and I ride to Richmond Hill frequently each week from Miss. and downtown covering almost 80 to 100 km a day.

How's your bomber working out after a year? I want to get those fenders from Quigley Motorsport, the salt is gonna kill my Hall connectors during the winter.

Where do you recommend riding in the west end?

Please don't ride that beautiful bike through the salt! Your battery won't hold much of a charge as temps drop below 0 degrees C anyways and the Crystalyte motor will rust from the inside out, not to mention the damage you'll do to the connections under the swingarm. Spray some Beoshield T-9 into the motor vent holes and store that thing indoors, preferably someplace warm and dry and charge it every week or so just to keep it topped up.
I live across the street from Centennial Park which borders Mississauga so.......we are close. I have a Tacoma pick-up so I can transport both bikes if need be to the riding destination of our choice. Many, many places to ride including Hilton Falls, Albion Hills, Palgrave Forest, Copeland Forest, Mansfield Forest, Durham Forest, Glen Major, 3-Stages in Collingwood, Porcupine Rim, various Bruce Trails, Mono Cliffs Provincial Park just to name a few. Never have to ride the same trails twice if you only do one every weekend during the summer months. I posted some pics earlier in this thread of some riding destinations I had.
My Bomber is doing great. 2500kms so far and after the initial hiccups during the first two weeks, nothing has gone wrong with it. Gonna swap out the fork (the stock RST one sucks) for either a FOX or Marzocchi over the winter along with some Hope VR4 brakes and a King Steelset headset. Also gonna build up a second front wheel so I can have one mounted with a street slick (Maxxis Hookworm) and the other with a knobby tire for dirt. I'm fairly light at 150lbs so flats are not a problem for me with the stock 24" wheel/tire combo. Gonna need a good light as well for those late night summer rides but I'm unsure right now what I am gonna buy.
The day I picked it up.....

Nice, I'm really close to Centennial park as well. So nothing I can do to winter proof my bomber for the dryer winter days? I just bought the bike last week and I'm gonna have a hard time storing the bike for four months. I thought the motor was waterproof? What if I wash down the bike each time with warm soapy water?

wow really cool have a stealth bike mate also the pic you show really look beautiful place to ride morati the white bike looks amazing also i have problem with my bike the first week that arrive and from there never got a problem with my bike ,only 2 or 3 flat tires actually today i have to replace the tube the bike was with a nail in the tire but i was able to repair in 20 minutes after that is actually doing great and i am trying to ride every day 20 to 50 miles depends on my free hours i have the good thing about my country is i can ride almost all the year looool except for the heavy rain we got here in the caribbean it will be hard to storage this machine for 4 months wow is painful

Don't be so sure about that. It's common knowledge that lipo cells can swell, even in normal use. While the chemisty stealth use is different it's not impossible for the prismatic foil pouches to expand a little with use over time.

Actually regen braking is perfect for stopping in snow as it acts like anti locking brakes. Think about it. As soon as the wheel stops turning or slows right down, regen is no longer effective and as such lets go. Try it on some wet grass and you will see what I mean. :)

Yeah, I love this feature about Regen braking. It's like ABS in some way's.
That being said, I have found on very loose stuff, like the gravel I stacked on, it still does lock up the rear for a second or 2 before grabbing again. It can take you by surprise as Regen will usually only let go like that on extremely steep or loose stuff, so I tend to combine Regen with the rear brake when it looks that sketchy.
I didn't realize it till afterwards, but If you look at the video of my stack you can see my left fingers reaching for the brake when the Regen isn't slowing me down enough. I don't even think about it when I'm doing it now...it's just automatic.

Cheers

Sorry but the bike is not intended for winter(Especially salt)use. You can ride it but be ready, it will start to rust. And as Morati stated, the motor/connectors/controller will take the biggest hit first! If you ride in wet conditions be sure to preserve the motor. You need to open it up and then treat the stator with some kind of anti corrosion spray/liquid. If you are lazy you can spray some wd40 or 5-56 or Beoshield T-9 in the motor breather holes, but this only helps for light rainy days.
If you get water/salt in the hall connector(the small, metallic, round one) the motor could just stop working, no fun when you are several miles from home :)

Hm, here in Sweden, the people take more interest in IT stuff and don't pay attention to mechanical gadgets. It is quite sad, but most of the attention and questions are coming from females, kids and seniors haha! Most of the time I pass by people totally unnoticeable - they just look down at their iPhone screens, so I am almost jealous at you guys, lol!
One time I catched up a guy with an self made eBike, he had a MagicPie in the front. He was pedaling like crazy and the motor maked an unsexy noise, he was going ~35km/h.
I said: cool is that a MagicPie? He just mumbled somthing like "uhu, yeah" and did't even looked at me and continued to push those pedals lol people are so cold here! Disappointed for not getting a conversation from him a hit the throttle and passed him...
