E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

Oh Dear :!:
I seem to have buckled my rim.

I know nothing about rims.
Does anyone know if it's possible to repair a rim?
If not, any recommendations for a replacement 24" rim?
I would not want to go to an MC rim as I already have an assortment of 24" tires and this is the first major issue I've had with this kind of rim yet. That and I might try lacing it myself using the existing spokes to start with. If I can't get it true/balanced, then I will get a LBS to do it for me.

Also, I kinda need the bike for transport atm. Would it overly risk damaging the motor if I continued to ride at low speeds with it like this? I know it's not ideal, but if it wouldn't cause any major damage, I might risk it.

Cheers

theres no need to replace......(When your bike DONT shutters at mid or high speeds)
I agree, but it does shudder...even at lower speeds.
I realised it's not obvious from the photo's, but the whole rim has buckled in, not just the edge. The spokes under the buckle feel loose.

Cheers

The rear is also to short I get splashes on my back. Also what annoys me is that the rear fender flex so much when going fast over the bums that it hits the rear wheel creating an awful sound - people turn heads=not so stealth anymore :)
As you can see, the dirt is on the vboxx, controller and on the frame itself.

I thought the rear Fender could be adjusted at different angles? Are there any other Fender recommendations?

That should be ok to ride for a while since it has an inner tube in it. Hopefully the spokes aren't so loose that the nipples could be poking the tube from the underside.

Better have good fenders than the controller cover. With covers the bike looks to bulky for my taste. I want it to be as much bicycle looking as possible but with covers we are talking about motorcycle looks.

I agree 100% about keeping a bicycle look. Motor bicycles especially need to look like bicycles, because of all the messed up laws regarding motor bicycles.

I've been studying options for fenders. I feel a little like the odd man out when looking at pictures of everyone's Bombers. Seems like most people ride them in the dirt. Where I live there's about 100 miles of cement, and steel in every direction before you can find any dirt. I still remember when I was a kid there were undeveloped lots in the city here, and there where we used to ride scrambles, but all of those are long gone.

After I put my personal touches on it, my bike's styling will be a mix super motard, and street bike. When I look at a Bomber I see the ultimate urban weapon for slicing and dicing heavy traffic. Considering the legalities for electric bicycles I don't think the Stealth factory wants to emphasize that point, but the truth cannot be denied. I find it pretty funny looking at all the videos of Stealth's riding the single track, alone in the middle of no where, without a single soul in sight for miles. They wish LOL. They'll sell a lot more bikes if they start focusing on city riding more.

CD, to fix this rim correctly, you would need to un lace it from the motor, throw it in the oven set at 500F and then start unbending and reshaping the rim back to round removing the buckle. Its a pain in the ass and will take a long time. I did this back in 92 on my 91 KTM 540. WIth several hours of heating and bending, I never did get it perfect, but close enough to sell it. You would be better off replacing it. I would recommend the 24" Mountain Unicycle Dominator rim for replacement. If you went this route, the spoke holes would have to be drilled out to accomodate the 8-9 g spokes that Stealth uses. Also because the rim ERD is slightly more, I am not sure if your stock spokes would work because they are custom cut to lenght for the deep V rim Stealth uses and may be just a little on the short side.

Right now I'm thinking the best solution for a rear fender might be a rear seat post rack. It can act as a fender, a cargo carrier, and also a good place to mount a taillight.

+1 here but I'd recommend staying with current spec rim, I know Stealth have put a LOT of R&D time into wheel component optimisation. Keeps things simple - but I recognise the bespoke path can be fun if you've got the time, cash and patience to work the problem through.

Theodore, I hear you, but that's a local context for you. As owners well know, the mix of international eBike legislatures is complex, with no-where other than Florida really allowing the bikes to be used in full power in the sort of context you're describing. That's not about to change anytime soon, so having an off-road oriented marketing focus makes sense from the perspective of the manufacturer and retailers. If owners have the wisdom to use their bikes in an urban context, with an over spec set of suspension, that's entirely up to them.

Bear in mind that we're potentially going to be coming up against outcomes like this, which risk increasing levels of regulation: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-10-09/14yo-boy-killed-in-bike-crash-after-police-stop/5010736

Wow, I'm surprised nothing crazy happens to the bomber after a solid mud session..

also notice that dh-paule has the controller relocated to inside the frame for better all weather water resistance..

Right. What do you all think about the controller covers from Quigley? I'm definitely ordering the fenders.

well as an offroad rider located in a not so dry climate, i personally would eventually (immediately haha;) want to move the controller inside the frame.. my trails often have creek crossings & deep mud puddles, etc.. also,, they don't usually salt the trails etc so would a shame to store the bike all winter ???

I went to the local bike shop and found some mudguards for my Fighter. Ordering mudguards from the other side of the planet is something I usally try to avoid:p

What a coincidence, I was just looking that front fender last night, and wondering how it would look on a Stealth. Now that I see it, I think it's not too bad, but I like the front half of it better than the back half. Thanks for posting the picture of it, and btw, welcome to the forum.

OD84, where did you get your kickstand? Can you post a picture of it too?

those mudguards are weak.. front broken after small stick screwed in.. rear, week later got in half by my leg while landing in sand by steering wheel.
they probably are too hardmade.
going for Mucky Nutz Bender Fender front and 2x rear.

The mudguards is fine for my use in "urbania" terrain, I don't have time to whipe my controller and ass after every ride to work:p
You have problems with sticks, I have problems with ice.. Soon I need to changing to spike tires. Different use, same with needs...
Like the clean and smal mudguards, only concern is, can they keep water and dirt of the controller.
I orderd the kickstand from my local mc dealer. I have no closeup photo of the kickstand, but her is a link https://www.denniskirk.com/moose/clamp-on-side-stands.p281888.prd/281888.sku
I Painted it black, and modified the backside of the clamp with a flat plate to make it cleaner.

OD which fenders are those?

Hi guys, Here is a few pics of the latest Bomber swingarm supplied on all Bombers after approximately no. 360. It's about 250grams lighter than the previous version & appears to be Tig welded instead of Mig welded. It also has drain holes as well. The shock mounting eyelets are about 5mm closer to the front of the swingarm. The basic geometry is pretty much the same though except for the strengthened corner sections near the cross member.

Cool, a 1/2 lb weight off the swing arm is a good thing. The welds look nicer on the new arm. Does it seem to be narrower where the tire will be, or does it just look that way from the picture? I'm guessing a 3" tire will still fit?

Thanks for the report.

Just read this article. It was sad. Figures that the beaurocrats would blame the bicycle being electric for the crash that the boy had when he failed to yeild to Police Officers. Its not the Ebike's fault, its the crappy decision of the 14 year old boy that cuased the accident which ultimately killed him. If there is one thing I like about being a cop, I have the discretion of enforcing stupid laws that were passed as a result of dumb drivers/riders. I believe in a system that holds the individual/s accountable for their own actions. I don't believe in a system that punishes the mass population because the stupid ones that did something for a new law to be written. I really feel sorry for the ebike riders that are going to be subjected to stricter laws as a result of this incident. Switching topics, thanks for posting the new swingarm compared to the old one. It would appear that besides the gussets on the back side of the brace, the swingarm just a bit narrower towards the brace. Or is it? Yes, thats definately tig welded instead of wire feed. Looks really pretty. 250 grams is just a little over a pound. Not huge, but its progress. Did the rest of the Bomber Chasis loose any weight?

Rick

Yeah the same mentality blames the gun instead of the criminal that pulled the trigger. Take away the gun and all of a sudden the criminal will become a model citizen. Right.
