E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

Hey guys,

Long time no post. I have not had much time to ride but now that my daughter is 3 and I moved near some good trails again I am ready to go ride. For the past say 3 years I have barely gone out for a ride and if I did it was only like 5 miles every 1 or 3 months. I took my bike out after a full charge and it cut out while riding I didn't pay attention to the AH used but I thought it was like 8-9Ah, so I took it home fully charged it then rode like 3AH on it and then today did a full charge and rode it until the battery cut out again this time at 7.34Ah. I assume I am due for a new battery since the one I have is from 2012 and don't want to try to replace a cell since it's a bit old and I want something reliable. My battery and motor are stock, I upgraded the forks to 888's and brakes nothing else was upgraded. I tried contacting a local stealth dealer a few times that is closest to my but so far I have not heard back from them the last few times I contacted them.

Should I get a replacement battery from Stealth or is there a reliable place I can get one? I've seen the threads but after reading through like 20 pages I decided to just ask and get the latest and greatest updated tips

Here are my details for reference for reference.
Stealth Bomber #162
Received the bike around August of 2012
It has the original battery
CycleAnalyst version 2.25
After full charge the CA shows 86.4v

Total Cycles = 112
Total AH = 1071
Total Miles = 1460

Thanks guys.

Yah I remember when you got your Bomber, it was late July or August of 2012. I have Bomber #143, and am still running the stock battery and getting about 1200wh out of it. The reason your battery is performing poorly is lack of use, and you are due for a new battery. What I suspect would happen is if you rode your bike say 7 more times and took it easy, your battery may improve with the discharging and recharging. You got a couple of options, if you have Allex build you a 21s 8P pack with 30Q cells, you could have a 86.4 volt 24Ah battery and use your stock charger. Just change your LVC to 66 volts. Another option would be to order one directly from Stealth. Stealth uses a differently chemistry now for their batteries and would set up with complete plug-n-ride with a new charger. Either way you go, cant go wrong.

Hi all,
I can vouch for down time significantly detracting from battery life.
After four years enjoying a total of 6700+kms, 630 cycles and 5500+Ah, I noted my battery capacity dropped the most during broken bike downtime.
I am currently managing with 7.5Ah whilst I procrastinate over my replacement options.
I will say I am looking forward to again have a decent range to allow a bit of exploring.

I won't bore you all with details, suffice to say my frame breaking R&D program that resulted in 5 months total downtime [divided by four warranty repair periods] saw my battery down to 12Ah from the standard 18+Ah.
The last arguably self inflicted six+ week downtime period late last year finished off the battery down to less than 9Ah.

Whatever option I go with for a new battery, I'll not leave it doing nothing for more than a week and ideally a couple of days only. I'll be ensuring the original crystalite hub and controller are ready as spares if required and hopefully my frame R&D program is done!
Cheers,
Clinton

Thanks for the tips Rix. I will take her out for a spin every day now that I have an idea when she cuts out. I can give that a shot to see how things change after a few rides. I left messages with Allex and stealth regarding a replacement so I have time to gets some rides in. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Update for anybody else in the same situation: So I sent the battery to stealth and they did a full check and replaced two cells so it's totally fine now. The cost was $260 I believe plus my shipping cost to send it out which wasn't much.

What a beast of a car! Perks of living in the USA. does it have the 10 speed auto?

No, he wanted the stick. Personally I would have gotten the auto. He had a plan. A few weeks ago he bought a 9 year old Toyota Corolla to drive back and forth to work.

Well that's certainly chalk and cheese!
You actually picked the least impressive angle to show off the car - I just googled to see what the latest model looks like and... well... DAMN! Beastly indeed!
I can't wait for the delivery of my Tesla but at the same time I wouldn't be able to say no to that if offered a swap. Again worlds apart and although I embrace all that the tesla represents it's kinda sad to think this is the turning point where electrics take over and cars like the Camaro will become a thing of the past. Could we maybe just get rid of all other cars on the road and swap them for electrics, but keep the muscle cars ? :p

Only in a perfect world where the flakes, sheep and weak didn't have any say so.

He had to pay $1,700 gas guzzler tax. He would have rather had a Tesla, but of course it would have had to be the most expensive one, and it cost trice as much. He says any car that's faster than this Zl1 cost at least twice as much.

Dat's one of the best Videos I've seen Rick! How did he filmed it, sitting as a passanger on a gas bike?
Yeah, my regular skinny ass MTB tyres would not survive those rocks...

Actually Angus had this huge camera and a GP and was filming from a Fighter borrowed from Mototopia in San Francisco. With the exception of the dirt roads, almost all of my offroad riding is either lava rock fields, or soft sand, and I don't ride a lot of sand because it takes a lot of amps and the motor heats up quick. This is why its necessary to have an MC wheel on the rear where I live, and to run HD tubes and Mr Tuffy Tire liners on the front with moderate to high PSI air pressure.
