They told me at JW Batteries that they're not currently shipping internationally because they found out it costs about $10,000 to certify a battery pack for international shipping, and the cert is only good for that one size pack. Every other size pack would need to also be certified for additional $10 thou.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons...when I looked into it for the 3rd time last year it was going to take a business account with DHL or Fedex/TNT, which costs, then I would have to attend a 2-3 day seminar ($$$) and pass a test to get a certification for shipping dangerous goods. The seminar's were only held a few times a year in Hawaii (at least for Fedex)...then the test on shipping dangerous goods includes all dangerous goods, not just Lithium and costs more $$$. Then I would have to maintain said certification ongoing complying with any new rules etc.

The crazy/stupid thing is, I'm building these packs made from cells I've ordered internationally from China. Granted there are obvious differences between loose/raw cells and a built pack, but still China doesn't seem to have these issues when shipping fully built packs either. Why is it so hard for everyone to ship, but not China!

I would also be happy to ship by sea...if that were an option for a small time player like me, but it doesn't seem it really is, plus I don't think the rules are that much different/more relaxed anyway.

So basically I've given up international shipping of batteries for now...I'm busy enough as it is servicing Australia anyway.

@Allex, looks like a decent pack for a Beta. Any reason you went with 18S? Would 20S also fit?

Cheers

Yeah CD, you got that right. Apprently factories in china can toss a battery in a box and ship it to the us for dirt, but if anything goes wrong with it. it costs a fortune to send it back.

I bet someone at the Stealth factory is looking at my bike, going doh, if we had styled a bike like Theodore Voltaire's we might have sold more than 3 bikes last year.

Ducky, I always used 18S on my bike, the above one is not used in my bike.
18S is perfect for my needs dont need higher speeds and also, I save on the weight, trying to have the beta as light as possible.
20S 21700 should go in!

Hi folks,
I hope I'm not breaking the rules by informing readers that I'm selling my B52 no. 289. Located near Sydney.
After few weeks of Gumtree and Facebook Marketplace, I'm over the torture and thought people whom appreciate these bikes may be better to deal with!
PM if interested.
Thanks,
CJ

Bugger! I’ve just bought a new one and facing a three month wait, to Queensland....man plans, GOD laughs...

thats the way to go Allex, I imagine the packs build a little quicker also as there is less gluing and cell stacking. Pack looks great!!!!

Hey good news, there's a new battery shop in town, and it's right here in Dallas.

I went there yesterday to scope out their shop, and left quite impressed. They specialize in building custom battery packs for 50 mph eSkate Boards, One Wheels, eScooters, and of course eBikes. They can build a pack of any size, and will also repair, or upgrade any oem battery pack utilizing the stock battery shell. They're into high performance. They showed me a custom pack they were in the process of building for a 70 mph Sur Ron, and custom long range packs they make for eSkate Boards. They have Sunstone robot spot welding machines for their operation that cost $40,000 each, and I saw at least 5 of them. They said they'd be happy to build battery packs for our Bombers, and ask me if I happen to have an old one that they can use to get the dimensions off of, which I do, and plan to take to them. The principals names are Jim, West, and Dawud.

I don't have a stealth, but I'd certainly be interested in what these guys can do. Keep us posted.

As long as you're in the us they can help you, but they don't ship international. I have a battery at their shop now being repaired.

I talked to an Onyx rider last night, and he informed me of some of the capability's. They have QS205 motors, but he didn't know how many winds. They have Kelly controllers that he thinks have 400 amp capability. He said he can adjust the limits with a program on his phone, and he has his set for 12,000 watts. He said he's tried it up to 17,000 watts, but battery consumption is too high, and he doesn't want to abuse his motor, so he thinks 12,000w is a good compromise. I think they come from the factory set for 6000w.

Sounds like when the day comes that I will need to replace my motor and controller, I should look into going this route for my Bomber. What are your thoughts about this?

This the Shimano XT BR-M8020 4 piston caliper I hope is going to solve my from caliper over heating brake stink problem.
