No more than 3A judging by the thin AWG wires going to controller. What's your plan now?

I got no plan par se, I'm just trying to understand how the system works. I hate not knowing very much about it.

Hey Rodney thanks for posting the video - I am surprised how steady your video is I thought it would be more shaky considering the camera was mounted on the bars!

Hugh

Nice video Rod, and some fantastic local trails you have there Hugh! Alot of it looks so smooth, you could really nail it through there!

As for the diet thing, I've put myself on a vague one too. I'm not going stupid and eating a lettuce leaf a day but I'm attempting to dodge junk food and most importantly pedal more on my bike. I've only got around 8kg to lose so I'm not exactly about to die of a heart attack but ebikes are a great way to ease into it. I've upped the pedalling on my morning commute and halved my regular AH consumption for my 16km/10mi trip. It gets me to work a bit pink but not hot and sweaty (riding in a t shirt in cool weather helps there). On the return commute I'm using only minimal power assist on the hills (current limit on the CA set to 8 amps) and as a result today cracked a new economy record of 7.8whr / km (12.5whr/mi).

On an unrelated note, has anyone stripped back the stock powder coat on their stealths and if so how easily did it come off ? I'm in the process of rebuilding mine and want to strip and recoat it to make it like new again (lots of stone chips and a minor dent in the neck from my last big crash) but a local bloke I spoke to seems to thing stripping the existing coat off will be tough. He may have just not wanted the job though as everything seemed to be an effort for him...

Hugh

Thanks Hugh for the comments. its a good camera. currently looking for a new program, editing tool for windows 8. any suggestions or recommendations.

On the cards that I will come back next year, Had a good trip over the west coast Hugh and actually had a helicopter landing on Franz joseph glacier.

Edit: we posted together hyena and yes it's on the coast and flat. When I discussed it with Hugh I wanted an easy trail. Didn't want to fall off his bike.
Thanks for the day out Hugh. Much appreciated and if you come
To perth I'll organise a group ride and a bike.

Video recorded In Christchurch New Zealand.

I had trouble keeping up with Hugh.

Great vid of you and Huge22 Rod, thanks for posting it. I noticed at 1:21, you overshot the corner, if I had a dollar for everytime I did that, I would be able to fill the Bomber compartment with dollar bills. :D When I see a rider do that, it tells me he/she is riding fast enough. If you never make a mistake, and don't over shoot a corner, something like that, then you are riding too slow  What great vid of you guys, again thanks for posting.

Looks like you came close anyway
Great trails, I need to find an excuse for work to send me over there! I have a conference in August I could probably attend but it's in Queenstown and I imagine it'd be largely snowed in ?

That's a better way to look at it, when I do it I've been telling myself it's ambition exceeding ability
But yes, I only ever do it when I'm going flat out

I love NZ - just spent 3 weeks there, but North Island - hired a Toyota 86, great car for all the bends, dips and curves in NZ! Hopefully Hugh gets to Perth sometime.

Hyena,

A torch is a great way to get rid of unwanted powder coat. On my Drakart That I sold and now lives in the land of OZ when I gusseted the frame I found a torch to work way better than a wire wheel, sand paper wheel or grinder. When welding with shielding gas the smoke let off by powder coat will interfere with the weld and cause pitting. It all had to go in close proximity to where I was working.

Good luck!

Tom

An option is to either fly into Christchurch do you ride on the weekend and then drive or fly to Queenstown. Queenstown rarely gets snowed in. I love Queenstown and the drown hill riding in the snow off seasons is getting really big there.

Yes trying to keep up with Hugh was difficult actually impossible. The main thing I kept upright and never broke his bike.

If your thinking of re powder coating then your powder coater can strip your frame for you.

Powder coating is usually removed chemically and all powder coating services usually have this facility for when power coating does not go to plan.

You can buy strippers if you want to DIY, however the chemicals are toxic flammable and best work at heated temperatures.

Sanding and heat gun is a cheaper option and it will take ages.

I raced a Ruckus on my china girl, and it beat me. I raced a Ruckus on my Tomos, and it beat me. Last night I raced a Ruckus on my Bomber, and after one minute it was a little speck in my rear view mirror, if I had a rear view mirror.

Couple of days ago, I went riding and took some pics of the Fighter. While taking pics, my phone got an emergency broad cast for severe sand storms 62 miles north of my location. Looking over the water tower you can see the mountains disappear. 90 minutes later on the way to the store, saw the gnarliest sandstorm I have ever seen, anywhere. Had to pull over, zero visibility for several minutes. This one was worse than the one in Buca Iraq back in 2006. This storm was the real version of the storm in the movie Hildago.

Nice photos Rix. What is the best kind of allen key to use to get the seat frame off the main frame? I have to buy some tools tomorrow to get my broken seat post off, will standard allen keys work? Seems a bit tight in there.

Thanks for the powdercoat tips guys. I think I'll just get it sandblasted. I imagine using a torch on it could get messy plus it might cause distortion on the thin sheet parts. The blaster I spoke to said the powder coat would stick better too with a slightly roughed up surface from the powdercoat. Sounds about right.

Speaking of sandblasting, wow Rix that's a huge storm!
Did you actually take a beating from it or manage to stay ahead of it ?

I meant to ask you too, how are you finding pedalling around on the fighter ? Obviously it's lighter than the bomber but how are you finding having just the 2 speeds of the schlumpf vs the vboxx ?

Hey guys, Here are a few pics of a Bomber we delivered this week! Love the ultra orange. I think it is definitely Stealth's best colour.

I got quotes etc for a custom paint job on my Fighter . The spray painter said the price included sand blasting . So yer I was gunna suggest sand blasting .
Thats a great looking Bomber QMS .

Down side of a beautiful Bomber like that is not wanting to get it dirty. Looks like a mantle queen.

I agree though, definitely the best color!

Nice bike, but it's missing something. Something hanging from the handle bars. I can't quite think what it is.

I did get blasted by the sand, thankfully I was in my truck at the time. Had to pull over though, it was zero visibility, I couldn't see the hood of my truck, or the road or nothing. Every year we get an accident out on this stretch of road because it gets so dusty that people end up driving off of the road or into other cars that have stopped. So when I drove off of the road, I parked way out in the field to the right, up near the trees.

As far as life without the Vboxx, I like the 2 speed set up better. As you may remember from our Yosemite trip and hotel room build, I am a single speed MTB enthusiasts so simpler is better from my point of view. Granted anything over 20mph I am ghost pedaling unless spinning high RPM. I would have to say at 2.5 to 1 speed drive would be a better option on the fighter than the 1.65 to 1. In over drive, it would be much easier to assist the Fighter and in direct drive, that's a nice gear ratio for climbing and pedaling with no power. Right now even in over drive, I can pedal it under human power only on flats with ease. I have a 34T on the front, I may stick with the 1.65 to 1 and go with a 38 or 40T to try that out. I am so impressed with the 4080, that thing is a tough little bugger. The new DC1 keeps me from melting it down by cutting power when over heated, but with some pedal assist and keeping the throttle in the position to match what my speed would be on flat, I don't over heat that much. Down the road I will vent it when I start pushing more current through it, but its apparent that Stealth has done their research as my Fighter is proven to be a reliable and light weight ebike option, even for 250# riders.

QMS that is one sexy Bomber, once again, the Quigley touch proves to be very very impressive.

Hi ,

i have the latest version of a bomber. i have a technical question. the rear wheel of the bike is stuck (it is not the brake). not moving forward nor backwards(not at all). It is as if the rear brake is pressed, but it is not. Switching the bike on or off does not make a difference. Opening the throttle makes the wheel spin, but if i close the throttle the wheel stalls again suddenly.
Any ideas what that is?

Being that you live in Athens right on the Mediterranean, your stator and magnets on the inside of the motor may be fused up from rust and corrosion from humidity. How much riding have you done during rain? Do you ride anywhere on the beach, or through creek crossings? If the answers to my questions are no, and the problem does come from the hub stator and magnets being rusted, than the most likely culprit is the salty air humidity you are dealing with. I lived in Lamaddalena Sardegna for 6 years, Olbia is 20 minutes away from Rome by plane, which is about 35 minutes from Athens by plane, so I am guessing you have a lot of humidity in Athens like Sardegna. If its not a rusty stator, your bearings could be toast. Either way, get your self 3 prong puller and remove the stator from the hub shell and see what you got. If no rust, check the bearings with your pinky finger if they stay in the covers when you remove them, you should be able to spin the inside bearing race with your finger, if you can't that's the problem. If the bearings stay on the axle you will be able to see if they move freely just by spinning them. Check both sides, if the bearings are the problem get yourself some high quality 6004 2RS and 6005 2RS SKF or Axis Bearing for replacement. If you cant get any bearings, let me know, I have some stainless steel Chinese KMC Bearings stainless steel bearings I will give you for the cost of postage from the US to Greece. By Chinese standards these are high quality units with the 10 ball fill and quality seals. I would only run them if I needed to and couldn't get SKF or Axis units. If you don't want to use a 3 prong puller to remove your stator, check out Keplers Video on page 115 in this thread, using at simple allen wrench, free wheel remover, which you really don't need to do, and a piece of wood, he removed his stator and gives in struction how to change bearings. That's the agriculture field method. On page 116, Dlogic has posted a video using tools and also upgrades to be done to the 54xx hub.
