I want a set of bars the same as Matt has used on his cruiser (seee above pics)
Matt is checking his local bike store too see if they have another set...They are called
Electra Bars apparently... I did a quick photochop using the bars from the cruiser in above
pics and popped them on the trike to get a 'idea' of how they will look-->

Matt said the bars cost around 30-35 bucks...shall wait to hear back on availability
I like the look of them anywayz

More soon...

Not a bad photochop.

Those handlbars don't jibe with the shadow on the ground and its freaking me out

nifty bit of craftsmanship tho

try photochopping these handlbars in.

Without doubt 'Ape Hangers' are THE most ridiculous handlebars ever invented for a bike, having your hands elevated higher
than your heart makes then 'numb' or 'fall asleep' GREAT when you need a handful of brakes quickly LoL...but as you wish-->

Reminded me of an email i received titled "Unusual Motorcycles"...had this gem (among others) -->

Off for breakfast then onto the workshop for some cutting and welding...mounting the seat pan today :)

Kim

p.s i removed the shadow this time so you dont get 'freaked out' anymore TPA hehehee

I love it

Just spoke to Matt RE: the Electra bars...he has checked with his local shop and they are out of stock BUT have more coming in on Friday-Moday at the latest WOOT! I also rang my local bike shop and ordered 2x20in 1.95 Maxxis Hookworms for the rear of the trike (will match the front tire nicely) ...with the Aussie Dollar hovering around 63cents to the greenback i wont be picking up a set of 20x4.25rims/tires from ChoppersUS for a few months...money MUST be saved for Lifepo4s at this point...curse the worlds financial crisis for making my cruiser look 'under rimmed/tired' LoL ... The 20in Hookworms are 110psi tire (same as my wheelie chair tires actually...) so i wont be getting alot of resistance in the tire department...the front is 65psi...

Alternatively can anyone suggest another controller that would be suitable for my 1000watt brushed motor 48 volt 20ah setup...only requires battery, throttle and motor leads not all the lighting etc......
Appreciate any info on speed controllers...
Kim

Kim, If you haven't already ordered something else, consider this, (or maybe one of higher amps)
http://www.kellycontroller.com/shop/?mod=product&cat_id=21&product_id=355

Considerably more expensive than a YiYun or other cheapie, but they are very flexible as to voltage input and of good quality, without going into outrageous price territory... at least the 200 amp one I have on my (2X) Wilderness Energy BD36 / 2WD is treating me well so far.

Maybe you can order one direct from the factory in China depending on what the exchange rate and shipping costs work out to be, or maybe there is a Kelly dealer 'Down Under'.

I only just transferred the money via PayPal to TNC Scooters this morning... I bought the model i linked to
few posts back...I have now bookmarked the Kelly controller page and shall pencil it in on the wish list its crap load better than what i bought and only 40 bucks more :-S Cheers for the link

Sorry I didn't see your question sooner. Oh Well, a guy can't have too many controllers laying around. I must have 7 YiYuns laying around, some untouched, some modified and some functioning but idle, and one burnt out

I just hope the one i have now bought is of better quality than the YiYun...i have seen a few threads recently regarding them and their failures, last thing i need is electrical issues when i'm out and about, what i know about electronics you could write in BIG FAT letters on the side of a cigarette paper... I'll definitely pick up one of those Kelly controllers, i didnt even think to look at them prior i asumed they were brushless controllers...silly me. I also like the look Etek/Mars 3001 PMSM/BLDC Motor can i have one of these for my trike too RLT? obviously need a different controller but how would it go in the trike you think? :p I mean... since i will be paying freight and all for the controller i might as well make the order 'worthwhile' right? Thanks again matey

You'll be "poppin' wheelies" for sure. Unless you mount all your batteries way up front. ;)

But I have been toying with the idea of an Etek or some other hefty power motor for my trike project. Or something a little smaller, but lots of choices for gearing, since I have BIG , Steep hills I want to climb.

Im fine with wheelies LoL...i'll have a Peerless diff in the next build so hopefully wheelies wouldnt be a spin in a circle on back wheels affair which they would be now with only one drive wheel LoL.. :: wink ::

The rear suspension wasn't 'sitting' right with me, it appeared
to 'saggy' for lack of better word, i decided lengthening and raising the
rear shock mount would be a simple fix PLUS giving me a little more
ground clearance for the motor side drive sprocket (now has 150mm or 6in. clearance)

I feel better about the 'look' of it now --->

I have also welded a tab on to mouint the chain tensioner...works a treat so
pleased with it ..

NOW..i can get to the fabricating some mounting structure for the seat pan...more soon

Hi Dude trike maker...

Swe all must have been left without the mobilty item you are trying to build...

I have a Nippy petrol wheelchair bike..This is old tech..I want to do the same as you, except just wheel on board...

Going by my way..I'd do the mag wheels, wheel on, and just a 1000watt hub wheel on the front!
You can get stronger hubs too from overseas...add the amp type electric handle grips etc straight on..and grove down the road/footpath..

I've been thinking about two 200watt scooters cut up to make a trike system with wheel on ramp...If anyone has done a wheelon trike electric, let us all know...!

Plus have a look at the envirotrike...Lots of possibilities for a handy grinder/welder....I think its in this device somehow..I have spoke to these guys already...One day...

p.s. Government Australia let the tech get in here to this Country...Don't re-engineer certify things already engineer certified overseas! We are 20 years behind!

G'day Mate..

You might be interested in this this thread in the motorcycle/scooter
section...nice mod on a mobility scooter....

I had thought about doing a wheel on version but the size turned me off...another option is a side car type arrangement
to wheel the chair onto. Luckily i have a fair amount of movement for a para... I'm still quite mobile
and have good balance still which is why i can get away with a more "normal" type of bike...(I can
actually ride a two wheel bike just getting on and off is a hassle
) I was just measuring up my
wheelchair wheels today actually, seeing if i could mount them on the side of the frame when i am
riding the trike, i could chuck the frame of the chair on the tray
(yet to be fitted)...would be ideal for the longer rides rather than towing it...if i can get away
with the axle mount for the wheelchair wheelz not looking too 'goofy' i shall go down that
path, the front part of the frame is larger than the wheelz of the chair luckily ;)

Hub motors are ok but i much prefer the other option it alows you to utilize the gears and thus
have excellent hill climbing ability which is a must have were i live.Rather than having to throw a
heap of volts and amps at a big hub motor to make it climb hillz ;-S If your interested in a
local supplier for hub motors Island Earth
have all the gear the fellas here use and rave about...long as you have the $$$....Personlly i buy
my motors etc from TNC Scooters

What part of OZ are you in? If your local and need a hand i would be happy to help out :)

Best of luck anywayz AND welcome to ES :)

Update

Today i finally tackled the seat mounting affair....
I am using a 'Fat Boy' seat from a mini chopper
(well seat pan @ the moment) that I purchased
for 20 bucks (as a whole covered seat) couple
weeks ago from Movement Systems here in Perth...I
ripped the cover off and used the rubber in it for the
seat on the first trike :-( I shall have a go at
upholstering the pan tomorrow, if this doesn't
measure up to standard i will simply go grab
another seat from Movement Systems seeing they
are only 20 dollars...

I had to make a sturdy base for the pan to sit on...i have
used steel plate for this task (for memory its around 4mm thick)
more than adequate for the job at hand anywayz...I reinforced
the seat tube with a 'X' brace arrangement prior to welding
it onto the base plate....the nylon seat pan then simply bolts
onto this plate....I have slipped a "standardized" size tube
inside the frames upright tube and butt welded it in place...
the seat tube then drops in and is held in place with seat
clamp as per a 'normal' bicycle...heres a few snaps of the
effort--->

Custom_crusier_5.jpg

I have tested it out (threw a beach towel on the seat pan)
and just as it is it is more comfortable than my previous
efforts, the width is the key here, my broke pelvis requires
support and the seat does the trick ;) Be even more comfy
when properly padded...The seating position on the bike is
superb VERY relaxed even with the bars, i can only imagine
how 'arm chair' like it will be with the new bars i have
planned ;)

The fabrication side of the build is now nearly complete (just
realized i need footpegs, shall simply 're-cycle the ones off old
trike
) soooo... aside from hooking up the brakes and
electrics the trike is ready for testing...Hopefully the new
speed controller i have bought arrives sooner than later ...im
hoping around mid next week :: fingers crossed :: Once i
have given it a thorough testing I will handball the frame
off to Matt (1000watt) and he will take out to be powder
coated...

Back soon folks

Kim

Thanks Matt...was wondering when you would drop by ;) I thought i had this build about right...then RLT linked me to the Kelly controller page
and i saw the Etek motor for ~450 bucks and then i remembered the Peerless diffs i bookmarked few months back and then i got to thinking (a dangerous and often expensive thing) so this wont be the last 'e-trike' you see me build BUT it most likely WILL be the slowest LOL Cheers Matt ;)

Kim

G'dayFellas..

So an old mate dropped round and kept me company whilst i upholstered
my seat pan today... He was kind enough to take some pics of me on the trike...gives
you reprobates a better indication of the size of the trike-->

Custom_crusier_6.jpg

Yes Yes I know I'm a sexy S.O.B... and ladies YES!!111oneoneone your in luck I'm available  As for the seat... well... it ain't super quality job but it shall suffice for the time being..

More soon fellas..

KiM

That looks like a definite option for suuure cheers for the info... if the seat i have now doesn't workout i shall definitely grab me one of the
Serfa Super Cruise seats, i think it would suit the look of the trike too ;)

Kim

Your change in avatar finally got me to notice your project.

Good work!

You've been doing a lot of fabricating and it's all looking to be going along very well. I'm going to have to start watching this thread now. :)

I love the fact that you are doing the "transaxle" idea to do a speed reduction and then going to a derailler. That's going to work so much better than a one speed. My guess is that on the back section of the trike you will put some pretty heavy SLA batteries right?

What are the limits of your disability? You've said that you could ride a bike, but getting on and off is difficult. Does that mean that it's a flexibility issue? Do you have feeling in your legs?
