Hello everyone, I am new to this part of ES and I have a few questions about electric motor cycles. first question is how much does it cost to make an electric motorcycle? second question, are they street legal and if not is there a way to make them street legal?

I cannot comment on how you make it road legal in the states but it can be done. I converted my YZF600R last year, I am in the UK and it cost me £6500 give or take a few hundred. The best place to start is on forums such as these, look for conversions that are similar to your project. EV Album is another good place, plenty of motorcycles there. Once you get an idea of what is involved work out your budget and what you want your conversion to achieve, this will go a long way to setting the parameters for your build.
There is a wealth of resource on the internet to pull from and suppliers of EV components are usually very helpful. One important thing is start with a good ICE bike in good condition with all the non ICE systems in good working order.

Hello everyone, I am a high school engineering student that's about to get my licenses, and I want to convert a motorcycle to electric for my first vehicle. but not to sure where to start, obviously I am going to need a motorcycle but I have no idea where to get a motor or ESC that is powerful enough. I would love to have it run off of lipos and be able to charge it from the outlet in the house. can anyone please help me?

My friend is selling his electricmotorcycle in parts even if you are interested in. we both worked on that project. He have a dual rear hub motor of 20kW continuous and 60 peak and the controller and A123 battery.

What kind of performance do you want? I'd say pick a number and build to that, and try not to think about your budget too much. Lots of ideas and advice to be gained from here!

I must agree, performance is the approach I'm taking on my latest project.
Another fairly common approach is to come up with a range that you need, and build to that.
You'll find that there will need to be a compromise between these things. You can't have all three - great range, super performance and low cost.

I think it's hard to avoid for anyone! :lol: I think the consensus is; you WILL exceed your budget, even when making a rather compromised machine. This leads to disappointment, which is only overcome by building another machine
So since a) over budget is standard, and b) you will want to build another, better, faster machine anyway, you might as well have a good crack at bike number one and be willing to write it off as a learning experience.
And I took 3 years to build Voltron Evo cause most of that time was spent saving up for parts. In that time, I had lots of opportunities to design things, think about them, get advice, and scrap them in favour of better ideas. Time well spent.
