ELECTRIC TRANSMISSION DELTA /WYE and SERIE/PAPALLEL stator

Here is a video i forgot to post for you guys..

listen to the sound in delta... ignore the governer on the c/a kicking in around 90km/h

Wow that is very obviously not right. Double check the relays are correct when terminating in delta... Maybe just try and wire it up in delta without any relays to test it.

Hey Everyone,

I have access to these china scotter hub motors ..

I think the winding on this are 9 - 6 as per the sticker on the stator, maybe someone could explian to me.. This looks exactly like the motor karmabike used .. i think its a golden motor replica

This motor was originaly a 60 degree motor (the center hall sensor was flipped to make it 60 degree) I flipped the hall sensor back to make it a 120 degree

I drilled out the shaft to 3/8 to fit all hall wires & phase wires

Here are some photos of all the modifications i did

I will try out the star/delta tommorw .. wish me luck this time .. This motor should work really well because of the tire size!

finally

star/delta working..

tons of rpm and perfect wheel size.. and alot very impressed with the torque at only 30amps .. I can crack a wheelie!! lol 16" wheel size

Hmmm.. interesting..

should i conclude that Delta and X5 motor are impossible...? :|

Hey doc

Don't give up... I'm relying on you to get to the bottom of it! Maybe we can modify the winding LOL. ...

P.so. I already fry my controller because I use a switch for now and I leave in delta ... Surprisingly I did it twice the fist test the 4110 controller survived!

Just an update... I decided to go for some SPDT relays. I am going to parallel two of them for more amperage without destroying them.

My Bafang +infinion are in the mail too. I will be sure to get tons of pictures when everything arrives!

Hey Karma,

Could you please post or explain how to wire up the supertach 2 to get the automatic star/delta on you goldenmotor?

-steveo

yes these were nice relays too. hascos with the special cadmium tin contact patch, totally sealed for cleaning after reflow soldering, from the bankruptcy of local electronics manufacturer. but i got 5 100V2200uF caps, and 2lbs of fine 63/37 and 60/40 kester solder, the #44 stuff. all for $26 shipped to me. but i felt so stupid for not protecting myself in the bidding. there were 3 bids over 6 days, mine was second. so stupid.

Guys... :(

Here is the answer i got from Justin after asking him whi we had problem with the X5 and delta:

Delta windings only really work with sinusoidally wound motors, the back-emf of the Nine Continent is a very close sin wave so the 3 phases cancel out when connected in Detla. The Crystalyte motors are more closely trapezoidal wound, which is better for most BLDC controllers but it means you get circulating currents when all the phases are connected in a ring because the 3 back-emf voltages do not always cancel out.

Justin

This is a bit a discouraging information.... :|

Sinuzoidal/trapezoidal....

i'll still try with my 5303 motor to confirm and make the point about that.

... The only next possibility to do an electric transmission using X5 or X4 would be serie/parallel winding...5304/5302.. like i wondered few month ago .. but it would requier 10 wires out of the motor instead of 6... BUT THERE WOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM ABOUT SWITCHING ALL PHASE NOT AT THE SAME TIME... so using individual DPDT relay per phase is still a great solution that can't short the controller.

I should receive a 5304 soon.. i'll try to integrate the relay inside..

this is shitty .. at least i got to install air cooling :D

Hey Everyone,

will just be posting some statistics

on my golden moter on 16" wheel @ 37amp I can hit top speed of 61km/h with 88.8v of lipo..

I will do the same test on the exact same strech of road .. and i will hit delta mode around 50km/h an let you know my speed increase.

-steveo

Throttle interrupt circuit is a success!
This will be used to cut the throttle when delta relays switch over so that there is no load on controller during switch when using an automatic speed switch
This is the test board, green led is delta relay on or off and red shows momentary power either way which will be used cut throttle.

I did a star/delta test again same settings as previous test, I got 64km/h..

must increase power!!.. high speed is killer and hungry for more amps

im up to about 40 amps. and on a day like today the motor gets hot to touch. whenever i came to a stop i could smell the windings  i looked it over not cooked yet just medium rare.

looks like its time for a fan mod

I smell hot winding everyday i run my ebike 8)

normal!...

Today when i came back from my job, I ran it WOT until i get my home.. and did some offroad after that...it reached 154 celsius...

Hmmm great smell!!.. hard working motor... RRRR!

Ever since i do my air cooling ... my motor barely see over 100 degrees ..usually run around 60-90 ish ..

i really want to add holes in my other side cover .. i just don't want to drill my original side covers..

Totally off topic, but I can't resist! What is that wheel you have your feet on in your avatar, karma! Please, a bigger pic and explanation! :D
