Error, but no error code

I believe the controller is probably broken, cause it doesn't seem to be able to communicate with the display nor motor at all. The pas doesn't work, neither does the speed sensing or at least speed reading on the display doesn't work.

I'm not afraid of microsoldering and electronics repair, does anyone know what steps to take? I know I could just replace the whole controller, but I'd rather not if possible.

PS it's a Crivit E-Bike by Prophete, with a bafang BBS01 motor and controller. Random replacement M5 display that didn't come with it because the other one broke. This error can't be caused by a missing lights cable connection, or can it?

Any help would be super duper appreciated!

What prompted you to choose that display? Have you seen a case where it works with a Bafang controller?
Displays are brand specific, and frequently model specific since the firmware needs to match the firmware of the controller. I believe the M5 is compatible with XLD/BrainPower controllers, but have never seen it working in combination with Bafang.

PS. If you click in the FAQ sticky, or the link in my signature (DIY FAQ) the display/controller section lists a few displays that work with Bafang, but some work with other brands, so you’d still need to find the right version for Bafang.

It was a display gifted to me in tandem with the e-bike. I though all five cable UART was the same!? Power, ground, Rx, Tx, and an on/off-cable. But the commands over the data cables differ? Awh man...

PS Shouldn't the PAS still kick in even if the dislay communication is incorrect? The display turns on when pressing the on button for a bit, so that theoretically should mean the PAS should be on immediately too, right?

I think my PS was a little too far post the scriptum, but shouldn't the PAS still kick on? May there be something wrong with the controller too then?

Jumpering the orange and brown conductors on the display harness connector will turn on the controller to default setting without a display. This will support throttle, and PAS at the default (highest) level, if you want to test the controller.

Yes, try hooking up the BBS01 with the jumpers suggested by E-HP. It is able to work w/o a display.

But it may depend on whether connecting the M5 display did anything. The pinouts seem different than the ones used by Bafang. Not sure where the pack voltage would be directed to, if anywhere.

I would expect the BBS01 to use the same harness as BBS02 and BBSHD. Then the display connector coming from controller will be a green 5 pin Julet with male pins, Orange to Brown. or 1 to 2.

Always wise to verify first. . See if you get battery power between pin 1 and pin 8 first.

I get battery power, otherwise the display wouldn't be powered, right? And jumpering those pins did turn on the speed sensor, so something in the controller is on, but the PAS does not turn on. The display cable may have been shorted +36v to ground or to data once, are controller repairs something you'd recommend, or just replacing the controller?

PS I spliced and soldered the cables in such a way that the pinoit of the M5 and the bafang would match, but I didn't think about them speaking different languages at that time.

PS PS Someone near me is selling a bafang BBS01 controller with an 810 display, but are those even compatible?

I learned that Bafang Uart....and Uart #2 are NOT the same protocol.

If a display on aliexpress states it is compatible with a Bafang BBS01, it should be actually compatible right? I have a link to an LCD4, which in your signature newb thread is not stated with the bafang compatibles?

If yours has the round UART connector, which I assume based on your posts, then yes. The KT will not work.
