Hi,

I have just joined the forum and this is my first post. Hello all!

I have decided to convert my hard tail mountain bike to an eBike. This is my bike, and I have purchased a Cyclotricity 1000W rear hub motor kit, with 12Ah Frame battery, throttle, display, controller and PAS sensor.

This is the bike

It is a 2012 Revolution Triad 1.0 by Edinburgh Bike Co-Op.

This is the spec

I am happy with the install that I am planning (kit has been ordered, not arrived yet), but I am not clear on how to mount the PAS sensor, which is a feature that I really want to have. I knew it would not be a simple install when I bought the kit as I do not have a square taper crank, I have a hollow spine type crank. Please see detailed photos below.

I am looking for suggestions. I am happy to modify the sensor, the bike, use epoxy, dremmel etc and I have access to a machine shop through work (e.g. lathe) if needed.

Thanks in advance, Chris

You're saying there's no gap on either the drive side or the pedal side to fit the PAS disk?.

I've never had to do it, but some owners will mount the magnets on the sprocket. The other owners just cut their disk into pieces and glued them on. You could do it neater and fab a nice plastic ring that screws to the sprocket and press the old magnets into holes. A larger diameter won't change things. Maintain the magnet orientation the way they would have faced if using the disk. Use whatever bracket is necessary to position the sensor.

There''e something about north and south poles, and direction of spin that makes the sensor work when pedalling forward, and not backwards, and I don't care to delve into it. All of this makes it tricky to mount a sensor even with the standard disk and round bracket, so you might want to try testing the stock ring/sensor to ensure it works first.

Thanks - it occurred to me to also try Pedelecs forum as perhaps more likely to find Cyclotricity sensor owners and how to mod the sensor to make it fit.... and I did, I now have a plan!

I've fitted a couple to hollow tech cranks. Ditch the granny ring, cut out the centre of the Pas mag ring to fit over the bearing. I Attach the mag ring to the crank in place of the granny gear. use the granny gear bolts to secure it by filing out small divot in the pas magring for them to locate into. Don't have any pics sorry.

I have just fitted the Kunteng KT-D12L left side PAS sensor kit to my new Fatbike, which has the same style hollow crank you refer to. The Magnet ring is split into 2 halves, joined by a large c clip. The inner plastic "fingers" that grip the shaft are easily trimmed with a sharp knife to fit the axle diameter. It works superbly.
Mine was sourced from ChangZhou SuRing Motor Technology Company Ltd, via Aliexpress as part of a Mxus conversion kit. Great vendor and service..
