I have a crystal lite motor and want to put two in a custom delta trike frame I was wondering if the hub motors operate the same going forward and reverse I am disabled and require a special frame. I also want it to look good so I want the back two hub to have both disc brake wheels on the inside. thanks you in advance for your knowledge. I tried to find this in the forums but had trouble finding it. I am new to the forum

Depends on the motor.

If they are the old X5 series like my x5304, then no, they don't operate the same, and are made to go in one direction (will go reverse but are not as efficient/etc that way, though they might be modifiable to do so).

Almost any other Crystalyte probably can operate either way just fine.

Also, some motors (almost certainly if made for the front, and maybe even for the rear) can have their covers swapped so you can still run the motor forward, but have the brake on inside on each.

FWIW, my SB Cruiser trike will have different motors in each wheel, and probably operate just fine that way. Just has the x5304 up front right now.

If you are looking for slower in reverse, then there are controllers that will run most direct drive hubmotors in reverse. Typically reverse is slower than forward.

I don't think that's what he's after.

AFAICT he's wanting to know if a motor runs the same either way because if he flips over one of a pair at the rear so both have disc mounts on the "inside", then one runs in reverse and the other runs forward.

well thanks to all that answered my question I did talk to the dealer that I bought the motor from. he did not know so he put a motor like mine on the bench to find out.
after his test he said they go the same rpm's going forward and reverse.
I may just swat the covers that sounds like a good idea.

thanks again
Roger
