I see people on YouTube building a freewheel into their crank and hooking up the engine there, the crank doesn't turn if it's not pedaled. Anyone know how they do that?

One of these free wheels going to be good?

Well no. What you need is first a set of crank arms that have threads for a screw on freewheel, like this:

Then you need a freewheel that has a set of bolt holes for a chainwheel, like this:

Then you need a chainwheel that bolts to the freewheel, like this:

Yep, it costs a bit. This is what I use on my trike.

They are available over the shelf, sick bike parts sell them as do shops stocking higher end bicycle trials components...they are about 20 bucks from sick bikes, all they are is a crank with a freewheel thread on them, sick bikes also sell cheap and the higher end white industry freewheel specifically for this application, i.e. non toothed freewheel ready for adapter plate to mount dual sprockets...

It's also possible to make your own crank with threads, if you are careful enough with hand tools or power tools, or have the right tools (mill? lathe?) to do it correctly. You can either put threads on an existing crank of the right diameter, or you could weld either a rear hub's threaded side or a threaded BB cup (RH, I think; can't remember for sure) to a bare LH steel crank. That was my plan some time back, for Crazybike2's chain drive, but I went another route and never finished the one I'd started.
