Hombre you won't regret giving a second thought to your long time neglected XP.
I have just gave a shot to a back to almost back ride difference between the BBSH2 and HD, on the EX frame vs an older Giant Anthem 26" mtb, and i say the former is the better bike for a middrive. For torque, responsivness, nimblness on paved roads due to the rigidity and shorter suspension travel, not wheel size (to a certain extent), i would give it to the little bike.
Just try it even against your 24" Arabs. I doubt you will rergret it. With a little tune up on the suspension, i bet it beats the living daylights out of both as far as comfort at moderately high speeds (25 MPH) on somewhat paved roads..

You make wonderful arguments .. but how to rationalize the Schlumpf SpeedDrive in my XP now.. and I really like the Thoroughbreds .. and then there's a Paratrooper hanging from the ceiling wanting electrification .. so many choices, so little time..
