Hombre you won't regret giving a second thought to your long time neglected XP.
I have just gave a shot to a back to almost back ride difference between the BBSH2 and HD, on the EX frame vs an older Giant Anthem 26" mtb, and i say the former is the better bike for a middrive. For torque, responsivness, nimblness on paved roads due to the rigidity and shorter suspension travel, not wheel size (to a certain extent), i would give it to the little bike.
Just try it even against your 24" Arabs. I doubt you will rergret it. With a little tune up on the suspension, i bet it beats the living daylights out of both as far as comfort at moderately high speeds (25 MPH) on somewhat paved roads..
