Hi Timbuck, thanks for the video. If your bike originally was 3 x 8 speed, now it should be only 1 x 8, right? Is this good enough? Would it be better that it can be 2 x 8 speed or even 3 x 8 speed? Will there be enough room (or possible) for GNG to make it 2 x 8 or 3 x 8 speed like the cyclone?

1Q...yes
2Q...yes depending what and where and how you want to ride it.
3Q....defiantly....better with a 2 or 3rd cog on the front. We are happy with the speed for dad...BUT if it needs to be lower geared for those very steep climb's. I'm talking the 5kph type riding.

How it is standard , is great for everyday riding , on the road or trails with hills. Standard it will climb 30'deg no drama's

I don't know if I should put it on my cro-mo dirt or buy a FS... Anyway I will probably use it with a 12s5ah pack.
This would do wonders on a slopestyle type bike with 130mm of travel front and back and a small hot swappable pack!!
 
Got one for me too. All components were packaged up good and only took two days to get here, freakishly fast. Great communication from the seller as well.
 
I got a mail saying they where out of stock and thw would stock up the 18/09 (not sure) :/ I asked if they had planned modifications on the new batch and they said yes, I hope they did something to help with the power handling and not make it worse :?
Time will tell, I paid for the air mail but not the fastest delivery service, so I should have this by the end of the month. I need to stock up some lipo's too!
 
There are a few electric bike forums out there, but none of them come even close to the size and diversity of ES. Also, the depth and breadth of technical expertise here (Jeremy Harris, LFP, bigmoose, a couple dozen others) is amazing!.

No manufacturers have logged on and asked for advice as to what would be the next popular product to hit the market. GNG stumbles across a product package that could arguably be described as derivative of several other kits that were already on the market, taking the best of each...and within two weeks of the kit being posted on ES as "a kit of interest to some"...it is sold out.

Not only that, but...the very next bit of info from the company is that they are trying to improve it. This some kind of "crazy talk". Don't they understand that in the E-bike world, they are supposed to produce a poorly designed product that uses low-quality components and is over priced, all the while refusing to change for years?

Hopefully the new changes are improvements and not cost reductions. So far I like what I'm hearing from current owners. This is better than the cyclone setup and looks to be durable.
 
Seeing I have never tried a mid drive setup I think I am going to need to get one of these.

The bike I would put it on is low cost dual suspension setup with the bottom bracket attached to the rear swing arm. Will the drive tensioner compensate for the chain growth with this sort of setup?

It would be tricky to use this drive with a URT suspension bike. The bracing of the drive would need to float with respect to the main part of the frame, unless you could anchor it completely to the swing arm, somehow.
 
Is it just me or is the worst thing about this kit the way it looks ? even though it is listed as 450w, with the size of the motor and the exposed gears it looks home made and over 1kw of power ,even if its slightly quieter then a cyclone i could imagine rideing this on the road in most countries with legal power that is a lot less then 1kw will raise more suspsicions with all the large exposed gears and motor?

Whereas the cyclone 48v 1.2kw pretty much looks the same as the 200w legal motors.

Also the exposed rubber belts would be a nightmare on offroad dirt use as they dont have the dirt cutouts in pulleys that the gates carbon drive design has ?

Giving further evidence to, "you can't please 'em all," I like the way it looks. It has a bit of a steampunk flair, much more so than the cyclone. Dressed up with a bit of brass (for further safety covers); or, even some brass look applied to the aluminum I think it will look great.

I do understand the concern about obviousness though. There is no way this will be part of a "stealth" e-bike.
 
Does anybody know if it is possible to find 4-arms BCD64 chainwheels in other sizes?
I can only find granny rings in that BCD format.
Or does it exist some kind of adapter from BCD 64 to another BCD size?

Many people have made DIY disc adapters. Once I bought a large diameter skillet for a push-trailer (3 years ago) for $2 at a thrift store with a thick aluminum bottom that was machined flat (for a glass-top electric stove) and I cut out the bottom.

Finally got my gng big hit out today i ran it on 10ah of 12s konions, it sags alot so say 44v. Max amp was 21.5 done around 8 miles of flat riding before chain came off then 2 punctures one after the other which made me retire for the day. Motor and controller remained cool through out the trip. I dont have speedo on yet but estimate 20-25mph top speed.
The power isnt very impressive in my opinion, for this to be a serious contender as the off roaders choice its going to need to handle around 60+v and 35-40 amp. At the moment it just doesnt seem to have the punch i was hoping for but hey it is only advertised as 450w so cant complain too much.
I dont see the motor having problems with 2kw, its the drive that worries me everything has terrible run out which i can only assume at this point is why my chain got flung off today.
Orderd x4 6s 8ah nano tech bricks more testing to follow.
 
@Craigh85: I got the same setup. The power delivered is moderate but really useful when combined with pedaling in my opinion.
I guess it´s a balance between cycle or motorcycle. >2kw =electric motorcycle <2kw =electric bicycle? When going with higher power like hubzilla or similar the needed strengthen of frame and heavy batteries seem to transform the cycle into a heavy machine hard to do any pedaling on?
 
errr what did you think a $400 450Watt unit would perform like.... A hubzilla/cromotor/x5....?

@christerlijung, Hi I seen your build thread the bikes looking good. Are you planning to increase the power? I've only had mine on the flat, hope to hit the hills tonight. I see you had the chain jump aswell, how many gears do you have?
 
Ordered a 20aHr pack yesterday, along with a 13-28T cassette. Eventually a may build a 11-34T cassette if I can find a derailleur good enough to handle it. When I tested this unit on my Wally bike, chain drop was an issue. Looking into "chain keepers" to address this problem on the new build. My crank-set has a bit of run-out in the freewheel. Although the quality of this kit is average at best, I really like the basic design. Can't wait to get back to testing!

I'd go for the 13-28 cassette, since the 12 and 11 teeth sprocket wear out very fast (shimano hg53 cassette). With my middrive setup it only lasted for a few hundred kilometers. The 13T lasted more than tripple as long although i used it more often . If you want more speed, better go for a larger front chain ring for speed to keep the chain tension within it's limits.

My rear cassette is 9 speed, som kind of sram. Derallieur is X-7, maybe they aren´t meant to work together it seem to jump 2 steps everytime i shift?

Anyway i like proportions between pedal cadence and motor rpm. Both in highest and lowest gear. The motor is broad in powerband but seem to fade at higher rpm.
That will probably change tomorrow when the Lyen modded controller is attached. Together with 18S 10ah lipo.
