Got a deal on batteries, what motor should I use?

A friend of mine was talking about getting e-bikes for her and her children (9 and 11), after seeing my cargo bike with a 8fun mid drive.

I saw that 3d robotics had a crazy deal on 4s 6000mAh lipos, and ordered 12 of them, https://store.3drobotics.com/products/4s6000-lipo-power

I plan to make three 12S 6000mAh batteries from them (saving the last three batteries for myself, don't know if it will go on a bike, quadcopter or plane yet). Not very large batteries, but I don't think they need much more, they won't be commuting or anything, just taking trips around fairly flat ground. Also, I will educate them properly on how to charge lipos, so don't worry about that =)

The question is, what motor (and controller etc, but that I can figure out I think) I should get? I don't want any more than 250-350W, it should be able to handle 48V, and I probably would prefer a front hub motor, but rear hub isn't out of the question. A bafang mid drive would be ideal, but that is probably too expensive. So any tips on what is available, has decent quality and is as cheap as possible without being lousy quality.

I won't mind mixing and matching components, and soldering things together. I also suspect I will need to lace up the wheels myself, something I have always wanted to learn anyway :D

Keep in mind I live in Spain, so ordering from the US is probably too expensive, if there aren't really good deals somewhere. I probably will order from ebay, aliexpress or something like that, but I would like to know if somebody has something in specific that they are happy with.

They don't even have bikes yet, so I won't commit to anything before they have decided which bike to get, but I would like to know the alternatives

I don't speak spanish, but I try ebay.es for a 48V hub motor kit.

many people have opinions on what is a good cheap hub. I would recommend the leaf motor because of the beating it can take http://www.leafmotor.com/ev-battery.html for controller infineon from em3ev.com are cheap and good. Lipos for kids!!! probably not the best idea no matter how educated they are 1 small slip up and things could go bad very fast. Since you have bought the lipos all I can say is get a 12s balance charger so there is minimal plugging and unplugging, and don't let your kids alone with lipos!. that being said there are many ways to improve the saftey of lipos and you should thoroughly read the lipo for noobs thread even if you are not a noob https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=19956. Also I would highly recommend building a safe space for lipo charging and storage when not in use.

Good point about lipos and kids. I'll make it a big no no for them to use it alone. I am by no means a lipo noob, I have been flying RC for years, so a safe charging spot will be in place definately.

Glad to hear that! Just read your post again, and you will have 4 12s 6Ah packs not 3. If you plan on running at that low power you might want to think about making 2 8s 12ah batteries for 30v nominal and still have 4 left for you to play around with  at under 500watts any 48v 1000w ebay kit should work well, just make sure you get one with a small enough wheel to fit the kids bike. Good luck!

a mxus 3k might be a little overkill for his use but it would defiantly last a long time and have plenty of wiggle room if you want to upgrade to the lightweight moto realm down the road :D if you've got the cash for two of those bad boys in moped rims i'd say go for it. but the ebay motors should suite you the at the power you wanted

I was suggesting the 28mm version - call it a Mxus 1.5k ;)
