Jeez, yeah. I guess it's time for me to let my hair down! Glad to see you've squeezed some time into your life to record & edit. it's addictive, isn't it!

by the way, knoxie, did you post your latest in a thread somewhere?

(could be worse, ask my wife  )

Keep coming!

another OT post, but thought some of you might be interested...

in 2001, my studio apt burned down.

I remodeled it, but it was too small for my girlfriend and me, so we starting looking for a place together...

this 'tear down' came on the market a couple blocks from my brother. my girlfriend wasn't up for a project, but i twisted her arm, we bought it, then i demoed it, and hired subs along the way... (ps. if you demo a house in a quiet neighborhood, don't do it on a Sunday, unless you mind letters from the neighbors... )

Man loved the house build video Greg so brilliant... I thought I took on a lot when I did my house in 2000, you have a brand new house there buddy! looks really nice too, that storm that hit looked like a nasty one for sure, heck it uprooted that tree? jeez thats some wind.

Thanks for sharing, I too have a build video as well however I wont post it as I still have the house but have a different girlfriend :p so wouldnt be too popular if that appeared on the channel..oh and I also videoed my son on the scanner just like that so worth doing isnt it.

Thanks again they did an amazing job on your house, your dad seems like fun too :D

Fraking sweet vids. Beautiful rebuilt house! I hope you settle that house for good and your wife should glad. :D

Greg, off subject - Are you coming ebike event on May 14? Edward Lyen, Ilia Brouk and I are going ebike event on May 14 in SF.

Thanks, guys. Couple program notes, fyi:

- Bought house for $350k in late 2002.
- Promised girlfriend (future wife) i could add second floor/remodel w/ another $100k!
- Got Home Equity Line for $100k six months later (values were skyrocketing)
- Decided to bump out addition after months of my own floor plan designs. hired architect to draw up my sketches, but long battle ensued... he did a great job w/ exterior/windows etc, but i fired him before end.
- I gutted the interior over the winter and on permit approval day, i hired laborers and orchestrated the razing to the deck, while the addition foundation was poured.
- I was the GC (general contractor) and finish carpenter and hired all those clowns (or clown teams) myself and managed them on fixed prices (had done years of carpentry/construction growing up):
  • architect: $16.5k
  • framer: $35k
  • electrician: $16k
  • plumber: $13k
  • HVAC: $22K
  • Windows/Ext Doors: $35k
- From July 24 thru September (when storms hit), I blew $100K and was broke with no interior. i'd planned to have the property appraised and get a new loan from the bank. but no bank would loan on property under construction, let alone by homeowner! meanwhile, i'd been getting all these promotional credit offers, so all at once, i took out cash advances on about eight of them for $120K (0% down for 6 mo... )!
- I saved a fortune on materials buy going to building materials auctions. i'd rent a 24' truck, go to the auction and leave with 3 bathtubs ($100 each instead of $1000, etc), 4 toilets, tile, flooring, sinks, etc. 8)
- I took 5 months off work, smoked like a chimney, and barely slept, fighting the rain with tarps practically every night/morning
- We moved in after 9 months of construction
- Got house appraised at $780k, refinanced 570, paid off all credit cards. house worth $1.35M at peak of the market, now ~$1M
- Wife hated it (practically left me) till 2 days after moving in, then has loved it ever since (as i knew she would)...
- Chateau 'Goire (as in Gregoire) is the name my bro (dude w/ kids visiting demo & describing power outage) gave it at the time. he was getting jealous! one year later he got a design/build McMansion and moved from neighborhood... :(

AWESOME!

Oh I see what's going on here, you're giving up on our gopro shenanigans and changing the game to epic house builds :p

Sounds like a huge undertaking! Big risks and heaps of stress. It's good that you could take that time off work with all the money you were spending. I guess the money you saved is more than you would have earned anyway ? I always assumed your house was kinda old from the other vids but I guess that's just the style you've gone with. Looks shmick now. Keep an eye on your wife for developing mental health problems, if she wanted to leave you after all that work and a sweet new house she's got issues  It must be a hormonal thing, shortly after moving into our new house a few months ago (which was a huge upgrade from our old one) my wife said she hated it and was sick of it. She nearly had a suspicious accidental death after that but has come to her senses now :p

hahaha. no this is one of those video projects that i tried to go on hiatus to finish! it's mostly for family/friends but decided to beta test it with you. and my rationale was that it's basically a huge DIY project, and so much of this forums about that. no? just electric bikes? oh well. thanks for sharing a bit of your story tho. definitely makes me feel better! hey, here's an idea for a video: interviews with the wives of ebike fanatics... question, ladies: how do you feel about your hubby's ebikes? hahahahahahahaha that would be hilarious. and label them too: mrs knoxie. mrs hyena. mrs gcindc. lmfao

We would be talking about what the wives DON'T know about their husbands ebikes

haha mine would have more beeped out sections than a Gordon Ramsay video

My wife frequently expresses her dislike of the amount of time I spend playing with my "stupid bikes" compared with spending time with her and the kids. I'm also scorned for taking frequent 'customer support' calls on the weekends too. My suggestion that she finds a hobby that interests her doesn't usually resolve the issue

My latest mistake is introducing her to ebay. With my account auto logged in on my laptop she can see my recently viewed items and everything I've bought. uh oh...

well im only 20 so none of this wife business weighing me down, but my mother...

jeez, whenever i miss an appointment or something, for example physio rehab last week, she cracks it... got an email saying how stupid i was and full of abuse as to how i must have been to busy working on the bloody bike to go to rehab, you know the rant. The real reason i didnt go was i had a presentation at uni, but that was completely irrelevant, obviously... Im sure if i was supposed to be providing for a family and spending time with a wife i would fail miserably, i barely look after myself "properly".

As for epic house builds, i know the feeling, we owner built our house, had huge amount of trouble with the engineer saying he was almost done, almost done, six months after that admits he has yet to start... But its finished now, gets a 35 energy rating according to the local (NSW) energy rating system... only need a 5-7 to pass.... concrete slab, straw bale, mud brick, stone wall, the lot, it looks awesome.

Your engineers weren't 3 little pigs were they ?

Just watched this cute video of a guy commuting on his electric bike into Philadelphia at warp speed (sped up footage). He counts the number of cars he passes like a video game. It's kinda cute!
