GT i-drive 2.0 Build

do you always have the cam in the waterproof casings?
thanks for reminding me. i was going to do some underwater stuff and left that cover on by mistake. i usually have the vented. the audio is generally crap though, especially when mounted on vibrating metal. this latest one, with suction mount has much better sound, if you like wind, motor, brake, environment sounds:

Can you still pedal with the GoPro mounted there?

good Q. barely! first time i set it, my foot moved it on first pedal. then i raised it. not sure which pic this is, might be one that didn't work. on final placement, my toe had a 1/2 inch of clearance.

bummer cause it would be nice to have it lower, and offset further, but that's w/in pedal range.

i could go back to the ankle mount, as in 1:01 from this one almost a year ago!:

Thanks for the info Greg, i will go to the vented case as i quite like to have the enviromental noises, although im in a forest as opposed to DC ;)
ppl always seem to ask how loud the motor is too, wanted to convey that on the video, with the underwater case it only picks up the vibration of the case.
i like the client meeting vid, the shot upwards where you can see you and the building tops is cool, i'll try my chest mount as knoxies vid seemed ok but i really like the rider cam J did too, need some more mounts lol, you must have the full set now?

D

thanks, that kind of shot is definitely one of the benefits of shooting letterbox format, mode 4. in mode 3 or 5, i would have been headless...

not really. i do have a homemade chestmount, which doesn't work so well for me since my body angle changes each time i stand. i recently got more flat stickie mounts (should have gotten curved) but haven't used them.

Really dig the 'shoe cam', although i can't help but notice that you still haven't taken that white sticker off your forks.
What is your amp limit of your controller and what sort of mileage do you get?

2. beam rack turned around. looks like terminator cock. not stealth at all.
Well to be fair, to travel at the speeds you do on the streets you'd have to be a robot, so that kinda fits
Stealth be buggered, how do you think I look with a camera spinning around on a boom on the top of my helmet ?! It's all about getting the cool shots

plexiglass wedge under bungees against batt pack, motorsports suction mounted off that. you must have had one like this, hyena, no?
Similar, alot of my earlier shots came from a similar angle but was a right angled bracket duct taped to the side of the frame a bit back from the head tube.

quickie: as far as i could go w/ street tires

Cool, is this the same mount ? I like the angle. Thats cool footage too and looks like you're taking some pretty rough terrain through that creek bed. You need to edit it though just before you stop and then cut to another high speed shot, so it doesn't look like you've been beaten :)

hyena, note the sticker, bottom left.
Anarchist :p

Yeah, I don't mind them staring... If I could only get better quality shots of their rubber-necking, mouths agape!

Thought about that, but the sound of the stream was so nice...

45A. should be in my sig..

I've got a switch that activates preprogammed speed settings, which also helps control usage/range, so at speed setting:
1: Max top speed ~41mph, 1.3mi/Ah or ~10-12 miles (but using it all, which isn't good)
2: Max top speed: 26 mph, ~2.2miles/Ah or 22 miles (not tested, but shorter if a lot of stops & starts)
3: Max top speed: 17 mph? 4mi/Ah?? not tested.

I did this vid ages ago, but since it's so buried I'll repost, for anyone else who wants a sense of my Volts/Amps/MPH, etc:

after work last friday, i went to nationals stadium to take in a ball game. drove around an interesting water park nearby:

but the big news is my purchase last week of a minivan:
sienna.jpg
riding six people in a prius, three kids wedged in the back in car seats with my wife on the floor (and au pair riding shotgun) just wasn't cutting it... and with the summer trip to WI coming up, and $$$ to fly and/or rent a minivan, it seemed like the right time.

it broke my heart not to get a hybrid - and the numbers at the pump are shocking with this fat beast... the 2011 models are friggin puffy! anyway, i was practically nautious most of last week over the decision... but after hauling the family to PA for an all-day outing, i think it was the right call.

don't get me wrong, this is not to replace my daily commute <shudders>. just a weekend vehicle...

Learn to ride switch stance! It is hard at first, but good practice I think.
yeah. but i ingrained the position in high school wrestling... and i'm right handed, jump off left foot, not sure if any of that matters, but i suppose i could practice occasionally. or actually pedal.

come to think of it, i far prefer to lean on the left side than the right. almost never do donuts on the right! not sure why!

speaking of donuts:
capitol_donut.jpg

also, i found some cascading steps that were fun:
View attachment 1

will edit it up tonight.

meanwhile, the mount, also showing (right) one that was abandoned:
derailleur_mount.jpg
fooled around with a lot of metal, but realized a simple piece of wood would do the job just as well...

i'm depressed. until i can find another good gopro mount....

I haven't seen you shoot from this vantage point. That would be a cool angle!

that's cool. i didn't know you could share a youtube vid jumped to a particular time code! i see that using share options, you can set it... so here's a part from my highlights when i used that mount - it's pretty wild! http://youtu.be/nZrEwwvs_34?t=22s

Time to build a rotating helmet cam mount a la Hyena....

P.S. Congrats on the van, it's no sprinter van, but at least you can fit a bunch of ebike stuff in there as necessary.

Yup. We need to be able to see your face and the road and bike at the same time! :p

Come on, what have you got to lose?

A good face plant with his side helmet mount should take care of that

Um, what ever is inside the helmet at the time a car collects the rotating boom

I actually thought about wearing this morning for my late ride in but I wouldn't have it totally free spinning - I'd tape it in position so it recorded either from behind or the front. Ideally I need someone else following me to video peoples reactions, that would probably be more entertaining than the footage :p

Greg, those stills through the spokes look cool. Kinda like THIS ONE of mine but showing more of the wheel. I had mind mounted on bottom chain stay close to the ground but found I only had a few mm clearance from the wheel. If it had of come loose it could have ended badly for the gopro.

And yeah, I hear you on the mount depression. I'm not quite ready to go buy a box of razor blades and sit in a warm bath but I've run out of ways to film the regular riding I do. When I get time I think my next step is doing more off-bike and staged shots, but ideally I need someone else to help operate the cameras.

yeah, that thing would be wildly dangerous on me. at least while biking. i've tried a lot of things but one of my key criteria is that the mount doesn't in any way impair normal use of the bike...

anyway, here's the vid:

ps. towards the end, the power wires got yanked cause at luncthime, some desert camo wearing intel cop guy took my pack apart and put it back together during my lunchtime shakedown at the white house .... yes, again. was walking bike w/ friend when i got pulled over and the 3rd degree. i should have known better... i re-bungeed it, but didn't realize the power wires were loose...

Great urban jumps, Greg :D What did the intel guy say when he saw all of the lipo bricks with wires?
