Handling the fallout from Covid-19

Schwarzenegger: Anyone making coronavirus masks a 'political issue is an absolute moron'

Yeah, but the Gav DID decide to politicize it, you only make it worse with your big mouth, Arnie.

I liked the one report that said you basically need to wrap a towel around your head TWICE and have it fitted so there's no leaks.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) in a Thursday statement said that "science shows that face coverings and masks work."

Yeah, science has been saying the masks aren't going to work, that they're useless. Oh, NOW the government says they were lying all that time. They know there's one thing they can say that we'll always believe, that being when they admit they're liars.

So now these experts are saying what they're told to say, but asked point blank if masks are going to work they basically hem and haw at saying 'Don't expect them to.'

Today people were quite loudly asking about 'Isn't there some way to get the Brown/Pelosi/Getty family out NOW? (Guess which families he's associated with, if only by marriage.)

Surgical, Cotton Masks Equally Ineffective in Blocking COVID-19 Spread, Say Investigators

by Frank Diamond

Mask & Respirators

Surgical and cotton masks are both ineffective when it comes to blocking droplets of the virus SARS–CoV-2 that may be generated when somebody coughs, according to investigators with the Ulsan College of Medicine, Seoul, South Korea. Their research letter, published yesterday in the Annals of Internal Medicine, compared the 2 types of masks. Four patients coughed 5 times each into a petri dish while wearing no mask. They then coughed 5 times wearing a surgical mask, a cotton mask, and then, again, wearing no mask. The study, conducted at 2 hospitals in Seoul, found that when patients coughed into either type of mask, droplets of SARS–CoV-2 were released into the environment.

“The median viral loads after coughs without a mask, with a surgical mask, and with a cotton mask were 2.56 log copies/mL, 2.42 log copies/mL, and 1.85 log copies/mL, respectively,” the research letter states. “All swabs from the outer mask surfaces of the masks were positive for SARS–CoV-2, whereas most swabs from the inner mask surfaces were negative.”

The study did not include the N95 masks, which are in short supply these days and which infection preventionists and other healthcare workers desperately need on the frontlines of the battle against COVID-19.

The masks were swabbed with Dacron swabs; the outer and inner surfaces of both the surgical and cotton masks. The researchers found SARS COV-2 on all surfaces.

The results come after the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently said that people should wear cloth masks in public to help contain the spread of the disease from asymptomatic carriers. The CDC thinks that the masks will help in situations where social distancing—staying at least 6 feet apart—is difficult to do; settings such as grocery stores and pharmacies. This represents a change in policy, where the CDC, as well as the World Health Organization (WHO), said that masks are not necessary for people who are not exhibiting symptoms. “If you are healthy, you only need to wear a mask if you are taking care of a person with suspected 2019-nCoV infection,” the WHO still says on its website.

The research letter investigators found greater contamination on the outer surface of the face masks than on the inner surfaces.

“Although it is possible that virus particles may cross from the inner to the outer surface because of the physical pressure of swabbing, we swabbed the outer surface before the inner surface,” the research letter states. “The consistent finding of virus on the outer mask surface is unlikely to have been caused by experimental error or artifact.”

It’s possible that the aerodynamic properties of the masks may account for this. “A turbulent jet due to air leakage around the mask edge could contaminate the outer surface,” the research letter states. “Alternatively, the small aerosols of SARS–CoV-2 generated during a high-velocity cough might penetrate the masks.”

However, the investigators say that this hypothesis works only if the coughing patient didn’t exhale large-sized SARS–CoV-2 particles. They’d be trapped in the inner mask even with a high-velocity cough.

“These observations support the importance of hand hygiene after touching the outer surface of masks,” investigators conclude.

Interesting, I saw an ER nurse on the youtube video or somewhere, wearing 2 masks. An outter fabric mask and an inner mask which was probably a medical mask.

When I went to the hospital, there were only 2 people in the ER. I was greeted with a nurse, inside the entry door. She took my temperature and told me to take off my mask. She then said "oh its an N95 mask" and she told me to put it in a zip lock bag and wear an inferior medical mask. I didn't say a word, so not sure why she wanted me to be less protected. I wear the N95 when taking the train or half the time when I am in a store. I then went to a nurse to get vitals and asked medical q's, then sat down for 10 minutes and went to another desk for "billing" information. Inefficient, intake nurse should be trained to ask for address, name, birthday, emerg contact, but I bet there would be an out of province person who complicates billing. I guess its a make work project, wonder why the health department for the province is in debt, well thats why..... Unions!

Whats next to ramble on about, keep it on masks I guess. Transit bus driver said they do offer masks but they fog up her glasses and she gets a faster heart beat cuz she feels closed in. She was an over weight woman. Good thing is the smaller buses have a plexiglass guard, yet I noticed right away how does a passenger drop coins into the transfer/money taker dropper thingy. Gotta be multi jointed gymnist to maneuver your arm to drop the coins.

Next up the trains. During covid-19 they want everyone to stay 6' apart, yet they still operate with only 3 train cars on 4 train car platforms. Useless transit corp. I noticed that the next train timer is always not working, how many millions wasted on that.

Cleaning the trains, never have I seen a cleaner inside a train cleaning until a few days ago. He was doing a half ass job too. Used to be transit corp employee's doing the cleaning until a couple years ago when they outsourced cleaning of platforms and trains to Busy Bee Cleaning Services. I just hope the transit corp gave their cleaners a bus driving job with rank for all the years of cleaning, its doubtful. Employee numbers for the drivers are their rank # too.

Not much else to ramble on about.

Until next time....

Dude how the frock are they gonna know what brand of mask you have, or if its even good

you got a free mask too, whats the complaint

lmao taking billing details is not a nurses' job. what the frock is this "unions" bit lmao, you just talked to a secretary

Bro you need to focus on what matters- its not being cleaned well, and there aint enough trains to provide social distance. Errything else- fuckin million dollar timer? really?- is immaterial.

It's been discussed elsewhere; they didn't know if they would until better details came in so people didn't get some false-sense of security. Being angry that an anti-science government didn't know how to react to a new disease from a nation who constantly attempted to downplay it:

How Well Do Masks Work? (Schlieren Imaging In Slow Motion!)

https://youtu.be/0Tp0zB904Mc

You need to buy N95 or KN95
https://multimedia.3m.com/mws/media/1791500O/comparison-ffp2-kn95-n95-filtering-facepiece-respirator-classes-tb.pdf

You need a basic but well-fitting cloth mask to protect others in outdoor situations, and an N95 or KN95 (along with goggles or at least glasses if possible) to protect you in higher risk indoor situations. If you have a valve mask, put it away for high-dust work alone in the garage.

Any other mask doesnt stop the particles from entering through the cloth. When you breath in, you want that air to only go through the N95 filter and into your lungs with a correctly fitted mask with the nose piece pinched in and sealed around the edges. I havent been able to find any official suppliers that have any in stock, Auckland Grainger and the like. Some people have sourced them and are selling at a reasonable price, but who knows if they are counterfeit or not which is what China is famous for, counterfeit and virus'

There isn't? You didn't read the whole paragraph? This "Aspiring Rock Star" paid for it out of his aspiration income?

Did you even read it?

If you're not afraid of COVID-19 you're an idiot.

The main point is, this desire for "re-opening" is **not** in conflict with effectively fighting the virus, that is an idiotically framed false choice.

There is no real economic recovery, without getting COVID down to 1-2% of its current levels.

I dont see a lot of people wearing masks or trying their best to stay 8'+ apart , not so much a motivator. Covid-19 is the lion, just you cant see it so people dont believe its true, like any virus.

Yep. It's easier to forget the risk if it's invisible.

Anti-mask rallies draw crowds in Calgary and Edmonton amid coronavirus pandemic

In Calgary, the rally was held in response to city council’s upcoming deliberations on mandatory mask usage.

“What [Mayor] Nenshi is doing is unnecessary and is going to be more detrimental than positive overall,” March to Unmask organizer Jake Eskesen said Sunday.

How is wearing a mask more detrimental then positive overall. Those protestors are frocking goofs.
I was riding through a mall parking lot the other day, and the parking lot is packed. Hardly saw anyone wearing a mask leaving or entering the mall doors.

Up to July 15

Blame it on Amerika, but that's just where they've caught hold the most.

Right wing alt-right propagandists in the Anglosphere, in league with or at least boosted by foreign state actors, is what I think the most likely root cause.

Only a third of Americans (32%) agree that "most conspiracy theorists are crackpots"

22% believe that "when it comes to so-called conspiracy theories, there is more to them than the official accounts of the events."

Even more also believes that "the mainstream media are not telling the truth about corona" and therefore prefers to obtain information from "independent sources" like their social media feeds.
