Have anyone tried Hub motors on a EMTB?? If not why not?

Want to build my first EMB.
Just started researching and I would love some advice.

Firstly why have no one used hub motors on a EMTB?

And secondly where to buy the cheapest board, looking for something like the below:

I'm a noob, so take it with a grain of salt...

As i understand it, hub motors (super cool and integrated flexibility allows drop through, drop deck, etc.) are not geared, so you can't dial in your power range to the lower speed torque you likely want on a MTB. If you look at the ratios they use for chain gearing it allows much lower gearing. direct drive hub motors are 100% limited to the kv of the motor as your only control for this.

Also, i'm not sure you can get a MTB wheels (5" and larger) on a hub motor. The hub motors i've seen are based on the standard skateboard 83mm urethane wheels they machine out and glue/afix to the motor directly. I'm sure you can come up with some way to insert a hub in the larger mountain board wheels, but it's not going to be quite as seamless like the regular skateboard wheels.

Someone who truly knows their stuff chime in?

You could do it. I don't think you would benefit though if you were going MTB. As sleepy said your limited to just one gearing. Just like an off-road rig doesn't have just one gear. A mountain bike doesn't have one gear.

It just wouldn't be practical as well as the amount of damage you would do to that motor from jumping and/or climbing over stuff unless you used a bigger wheel than the 8" wheels.

As well as ebikes for mountain climbing would be a geared setup and not just a hub motor.

Hub motor is great for flat ground. IMO

I also want to have disc brakes on the EMTB, but not sure how to do this as I think it would damage the motors.
