Heinzmann USA - Mix and Match a Bike Kit

I've been doing my share of research... and I like the idea of the Heinzmann Hubs. But I'm not sold on their other components namely the NiCad battery or their controller or the throttle.

I have grip shift so I need a thumb throttle. I think the pedal sensor would be overkill for my needs. I know little about controller electronics.

What I want is a Front Wheel Kit that will fit a standard Cromoly or steel Fork and not torque it round in the drop outs.

I'd like a thumb throttle.
I'd like a controller that feeds the hub motor with adequate power to sustain about 22mph on the high end.
I figure 36 Volt Lithium Battery Technology in some flavor at about 12AH and 10-12lbs would work well.
I'd like some kind of control unit that would monitor the battery output
I'd like a quality charger that isn't going to blow up the battery
I'd like the hub built up on a quality name brand double wall rim w/name brand 13 gauge spokes.
I want the wheel to freewheel when not under power... thus a geared hub.

in short I'd like a nice simple kit where everything works together... but with mixed brands that best suit the application.

I don't have an EE degree although I'm pretty mechanical and can crimp and connect wires... if given direction.

The problem is all the Chinese components seem so hit and miss with quality.

Am I too far off the beaten path to expect to be able to put together such a beast?

Is anyone running a Heinzmann here? I searched and saw lots of talk but no ownership.

Can anyone help me configure a theoretical set up?

Where can you actually buy Heinzmann stuff ? I saw they had a USA web site and I was curios and emailed them to find a dealer and never heard any thing.

You can, according to the Heinzmann USA website, call "Light Electric Vehicle Technologies" toll free @
(888) 423-5388 to find a U.S. based Heinzmann dealer near you.

Give up on the Heinzmann. Its a classic, but it's a dinosaur. its been surpassed by better technology, then had that technology surpassed, then had that newer technology surpassed, and so on. Its a technalogical antique.

Kits Like the eZee from Ebikes.ca or the 350 watt motor from Ampedbikes will do what you want. Get the Cycle analist option. Ebikekit.com sells a realy nice motor as well, but you'll have to source another battery option.

You realy do need torque arms with any fork, especialy with a geared motor as they produce higher torque.

A little bafang motor and xie chang controller would do what you want. The newest little bafang swxk5 has a 10mm shaft, although it is only offered as sensorless. At 36v 18a a torque arm is not needed, as they come with little torque washers and the holding power of the nuts is enough.

I lace up these little gems for front use frequently, generally using 13/14 butted sapim spokes. 13ga is overkill for a small motor.

Before you commit to a front hub, posting a closeup picture of your front dropouts without the wheel would help the experienced installers advise you.(I'm not one of them.)

Can anyone on here help this guy from your side of the pond? http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/electric-bicycles/8439-new-ebikes-assistance-needed.html
