Help needed again...regarding splined shaft

P1110352.JPG I need to find a source for a 24 spline 25mm shaft to fit this...

Was told by the supplier that it's a commom size for front wheel drive cars....but as yet the industry standard seems to be 32mm.
Does anyony one have an idea what uses this size?...Don't fancy shelling out a fortune on getting one made. Can get it chopped and rewelded easy enough if I can find one.

Did the supplier mention what was the motor designed for ?
 
Yes, came from a companly that make many parts for electric vehicles. Obviously Chineese so getting nowhere with them and the supplier isn't being at all helpful.
 
If you cannot find any shaft that will fit it, and you have the patience, you can find a steel bar of the right OD to at least extend to the roots of the splines on the motor, and then dremel or hand file the matching splines into the bar. It's a PITA, but others have done this (most of them have never reported back for long term success, though).

Or CAD up the spline you have, and have one machined (there's a number of places out there that do prototyping machining like that).
 
Thought about trying to remove the innner spline housing from the motor but it's pressed on. I guess will be a pain to get off as It can deal with 80Ft/Lbs and it has some pretty beefy bearings attached. Would probably ruin the bearings getting them off, so don't think it will be worth it.

looking like a custom made shaft will be on the cards....and you know as soon as I commission it, I'll find just what I'm looking for!!!
 
You got a scrapyard with a lot of old VW transmissions?😅
I looked online if any cars would have such a spline pattern and the most results I got was for old VW's. (Golf 1, 2, 3, gasoline variants)
Unfortunately it only tells me the tooth count and not the diameter on most of those.
So I'd look for some scrapyards with calipers in hand.

Similar or worse strength compared to the 016, and similar gear ratios. It would require a more complex gear shift mechanism as well."

Hubs with those dims, but haven't the time to look for the matching axle(s).

Nice find about the Boxster/VeeDub.

Had spotted the 125 hub but ruled out getting hold of an old 125 engine as I'd supect the output shaft would only be able to handle a few Ft/Lbs.

At least I have a target when I go to the breaker. Thanks:bigthumb:
 
I also bought one of these motors, the manufacturer will make you one (or they said they will) but its difficult to deal with (and very expensive) and using a payment method I'd not feel comfortable with...
so...I ordered a 25mm axle kit off ebay and will find out if the splines are the same via that route and go from there..
I'll update once I find out.

quelsurprise... have seen them but they don't seem to have the one needed.

have found a local machine shop that have 'over the phone' said they might be able to help. just need to get the motor to them for a quote.:eek:

Also I found this rear axle kit from a golf cart that matches the dimensions for our motor but not sure if I should use it since the motor might be too powerful in a ev car conversion.

Hey guys so scratch the above idea that axle can only handle about 400kg since its not steel.

It will tell you clutch kits with input shafts of 1" diameter. And from there it will tell you what cars have those clutch kits and as such you can find the transmission input shaft and use that 🙏🔥🎊🎊
 
Hi JC.

The project was in hibernation over the winter as I was upgrading my DIY solar set up and increasing the size of the battery it feeds.
I'm off on a short break over Easter so will have a good trawl of that site to see what we can find when I get back.

Hey there. Imagine I also have the same motor, or one in the same line or whatever. Anyone figure this out? I have fruitlessly looked at a lot of shafts now. Maybe if we could figure out what forklift or cheapo Chinese car these were built for the problem would be easier?
 
I'm beginning to suspect these motors were actually made for some kind of go cart or atv, that's the place 24T 1" shafts keep coming up as any kind of standard.
 
This clutch search angle is maybe better though... More pertinent to my rural but hipster area, it seems like a whole bunch of Subaru's have clutches with the same dimensions. One would imagine there are many broken transmissions from which such a shaft could be pulled.

I'm still thinking og going down the road of having a local shop fabricate one for me. But I'll look at the Subaru lead to see what might be hiding there.
 
You can get a coupler fabricated in China for like 50 euros or less if you can draw the spline.
I found 2 AliExpress stores that offered this service a few months back, didn't use them though because I got a somewhat local guy to do it in just a day.

You can find them when looking at love joy type couplers.
